Are Reality Shows Really Real?

I had complete faith of my own. Bright Dreams of the Tinsel town. But all it was fake and surreal. Are reality shows really real!

Reality show is the best recipe served in the form of entertainment to the audience and also for the TV channels as it generates a lot of revenue. From INDIAN IDOL to STAR VOICE, LI’l CHAMPS, SAREGAMAPA, NACH-BALIYE, JHOOM INDIA, JHALAK DIKHLAJA, FAME-X, FAME GURUKUL and many more. All of these shows have gained popularity and have entertained the audience.

But the question is, are these shows doing just with searching talents too?

The answer is still awaited.

The so called talent hunt programs fully loaded with big celebrities from Bollywood or T.V screen, the lavish and gigantic stage setup and flamboyant advertisements.

Has all this been able to give the talented its right spot?

In music reality shows the fate and future of a contestant is left to the audience in spite of the presence of great singers and music directors there to judge.

What if a contestant is from a village, where hardly have thousand to vote for him, as compared to Mumbai?

The fights, arguments, disagreements and controversies over one or the other participant by judges are also a marketing stunt to gain the TRP so that the show may appear more real. Cashing upon the audience emotions is the new mantra for earning money.

Because I don’t think that those dignified, experienced and well etiquette people can fight like bulls over there?

Is this called a talent hunt…or a market inviting crowd to see the big fight?

A celebrity watching dance show(Nach Baliye) as a judge stands with a huge round of applause, after a dance performance and says.””I don’t know how u danced but the way u danced rocked me.” I am awarding u Ten on Ten”.

Had there been someone asking that glamorous diva, ”Mam could u please brief what special have u noticed in this dance performance. What are these steps called as? I am sure she will be dumbstruck. May be possible mam herself requires steps to be guided when she dances. How can these judges explore the real talent?

Is mere having the vivacious ladies, established film directors, actors’ make the program real?

The word reality used for reality shows could be quite a misnomer considering the fact that most of the shows are simulated, stage managed and are not set in natural settings.

Reality shows, no doubt has brought a change in mood, choices and taste of audience. There is a lot of untapped talent in our country and these shows by extending their reach to small cities provide an opportunity to bring out this hidden talent. They have aroused hope in the hearts of those talented ones from distant villages, towns and even small cities, that they too can get it. An intense desire of getting into the dream city has made them to participate in these shows.

Apart from this, the emotional angle of these shows is to a great extent responsible for their success. The fact that the contestants in these shows are ordinary people with whom audiences immediately relate to is the biggest trump card of these shows. The vicarious joy which people get in seeing somebody from amongst them living an almost impossible dream glues people to these shows.

Despite all this, the end reality is that such shows enjoy great popularity among the audience.

Conclusion:

But the cost of quality should not be sacrificed for the sake of earning a few bucks, or popularizing the show. When we have the most talented singers, music directors, dancers with us. Who is the audience to decide the winner? And a celebrity with no knowledge and expertise if to be used for marketing and advertising is acceptable, not as judges.

It is difficult to say whether reality shows are a phase or they are here to stay, but we wish they stayed for long so that more and more Qazis and Abhijeet Sawants get a chance to live their dreams.

But at the same time the TV Channels should also understand their responsibility of promoting the real talent not anyone from their money making audience votes.

Play with music not with hearts.
