...or so the back cover reads. Imagine a life where people die at their appointed time, but are not gone after they die. So they linger on..... Terry Pratchett has done a really good job on this. Trouble ensues when life-force starts collecting. Where is all this force going? No one can understand the strange happenings around them. In Ankh-Morpork, the patrician calls in the priests, the wizards, the alchemists and the city guard - in fact everybody except Mrs Cake, the lady who knows whats going on.
The book has its own speed, which is a masters touch. Its neither too fast, not too slow. Its.... its just right. The author brings about different happenings all around the city, without any monotony. But when all this culminates together, there is an explosion. The introduction of characters at the right point of time weaves the threads of the story together. Like Reg Shoe who leads the fight for the rights of those who shouldnt take things lying down. The well placed, detailed jokes (like the cockerel with dyslexia), makes things all the more entertaining.
Without going into the details of the book all I can say is that if you like to see all things in a different perspective, without judging the logic of things, but just enjoying the fun and the difference it brings, this is a really good read. After a lot of heavy reading stuff, this may feel like a book for kids, but hey, there is a child in everyone of us. Its just that we try to hide it, even to ourselves. Just let go of yourself when you read this; enjoy the book, and in the end, I promise youll come out refreshed :)
