Pleazzz no more remakes

Well, sincerely speaking, the tamil version of this flick, namely ’Minnale’ was probably the best movie I’ve seen in recent times. So, with great expectations I sat down to see this movie...only to be quite disappointed in the end.Let me start at the beginning...

The setting is an engineering college in Dehradun.Madhav Shastry (Madhavan), a mechanical student, happens to be the college bad boy who seems to do everything apart from studying. On the other hand, there’s Sam (Saif Ali Khan), the good guy, the teachers pet, the girls favourite etc etc.As expected, there is a resultant animosity between the two leading to a lot of hilarious pranks in college, at least until Sam graduates out of college.

Then starts phase two.Madhav, now working, accidently stumbles upon Reena (Diya Mirza) and falls hopelessly in love with her. But, to his shock discovers that she is about to get married to a guy from America whom she hasn’t even met!So, posing as her fiancee from the states, Maddy(Madhav) arrives at her place. In a span of 5 days, he manages to win her heart. But, before he can tell her the truth, Reena discovers his hoax.An extremely angry and distressed Reena splits up with him and gets ready to marry her real fiancee who just happens to be Sam(Saif). So, a heart-broken Maddy resolves to his old ways and arrives to threaten Sam, only to discover his old nemesis.Old enemity is kindled leading to a roller-coaster ride of love, passion and hatred. So, who walks away with the girl in the end...well, thats the story.

Basically, all marks for originality in this movie.Anupham Kher is at his vintage best as Maddy’s father. And please, i cant even imagine whtshisname(Hrithiks pal in KNPH) in Vivek’s role.Gimme a break! The tamil version is stupendous (obviously, cause tamil movies are better than bollywood any day). But the hindi version has many flaws. For starters, Madhavan, though an excellent actor, has to brush up on his Hindi. Then, the music, though melodious doesn’t have the same effect it had in the tamil version.Diya Mirza is really cute, without looking beautiful and as an added bonus has a great voice. For those who have already seen the movie’s tamil version, my advice would be to avoid this movie. For those who haven’t, its worth a watch, cause though its not as good as the original, its certainly better than those shabby family dramas and romance flicks from Bollywood any day.
