Having just watched Rekhachithram(2025), I must say that its a very nice blend of mystery, nostalgia, and alternate history. It has mystery, yet it doesnt include the usual kinds of suspense or weaving around the plot in continuous twists. The film stars Asif Ali as Vivek Gopinath, a police officer suspended and transferred to a remote station in Malakkappara, Idukki, where nothing eventful ever happens. On the very same day, a man commits suicide after confessing on Facebook Live to a forty-year-old murder he committed. What is particularly interesting about Rekhachitram is the story-telling technique. It introduces us to the crime and the criminal first, then follows Inspector Vivek as he tries to prove it and find out who the victim is. All along, I felt for them. And casting is just right; all the actors put forward some commendable performances. The camera beautifully captures the soul of the story, and the background score just lifts the thrills. To sum it up, I feel this is a well-researched film without a conventional story.
