It is really difficult for me to write this. This is because I am writing this after reading so many reviews on it. There are loads of 1 & 2 star ratings and going by the comments given by other members, I feel, Anil Ambani should never even accidentally meet them.
After all those lashings, I can give Reliance a moment of smile:). I understand that it will be difficult for those members or at least majority of them who have had a bad experience with Reliance to believe me. But I am writing this just to tell the rest of the people that not everything is bad about this service contrary to the popular perception.
I am using Reliance broadband for the last 1 year and I never ever faced any significant problem with it.
Before I go ahead, I want you to understand that no company produces fool-proof products. Its just a matter of bad luck if one ofthose happened to land at your doorsteps. So even a product from a well-known company can turn out to be bad. But importantly, it is the after-sales support and services that they provide sets them apart. And I want to make it clear that I am not areliance patriot.
Now, to begin with,
Reason for choosing Reliance:
The options I had 1 year back in Pune were: Reliance, BSNL and Tata Indicom. Airtel & You telecom were not available in my area. I chose reliance because:
Low installation cost: Rs.500 against 2000 for bsnl
Free modem; bsnl: Rs.1800 Tata: free only with advance rental of 6 months
Faster installation: 2 days bsnl:atleast 1 week tata: 3-4 days
Cheapest plans; Also it provides 300 Kbps instead of 256 Kbps provided by others
My current plan is Unlimited 300Kbps for Rs.650. The landline is free; without any rental and gives 150 mins of free calls every month. So the effective price comes down to Rs. 500+ service tax.
I get close to 35KBps of download speed which is pretty much according to the plan. Rarely have I faced any drop in the speed for even more than 10 mins in the last 1 year.
There has been a significant drop in my plan rates in the last 1 year: from 999 to 650. I have always found Reliance products to be offering the best price if not quality.
My experience with customer care has been mixed i.e. at times I have received very quick response and sometimes It took 3-4 days.
They send a person to collect cheques at home but I prefer to pay the bill Online. But the problem with the payment system is that after you pay the bill, it doesnt show against the bill whether it was successfully paid or not.
I have a wireless router and I use it to connect a PC and a laptop simultaneously. Both of them work perfectly fine together.
Reliance also provides a free antivirus and firewall but I prefer to use my own.
A special mention about wiring. Reliance technicians do it very badly.I can see wires running haphazardly around buildings. So please make sure to get that done properly from them.
In all, I have had a good experience with Reliance broadband so far and hope for that to continue.
I have friends working for Reliance and they tell me about the unethical practices all the companies in the Reliance group follow. But that doesnt concern me much till I continue to get good service.
