Reliance Net-Unconnect

I have subscribed to reliance 2years swift 40 plans advance rental plan(zte usb modem M880 free).

The experience is horrible. The connection speed averages 5-10kbps, much worse than dialup connection, gtalk is disconnects frequently and gmail takes~20 mins

to open. I had complained this to the reliance customer care, but it is

of no use. Their customer support is all non-technical,  here is a

bit of it.

Reliance-cutstmcare: Sir you are having this problem because of the firewall bloacking the netbooster

Me: Okay, but I use Fedora 6 Linux, there it shows 5-10kbps means  0.625-1.25 KBPS

Reliance-cutstmcare: Sir we dont recommend the use of linux!

Me: why?

Reliance-cutstmcare:.Sir you must use Windows

Me: Why?

Reliance-cutstmcare: Because the net booster works there, it will

increase your netspeed and you must also use IEplorer 6 or higher

version!

Me: Okay but there it also shows 5-10Kbps

Reliance-cutstmcare: Where have you seen this speed!

Me: I have seen this in both Calcutta Telephone Website(Speed test)

and speedtest.net. Also taskmanager(in Windows) shows only~8% netuse.

Reliance-cutstmcare: Okay, basically you must uninstall the netbooster

and then turn off the firewall then reinstall the netbooster. Then the

thing will be okay.

Me:Are you sure?

Reliance-cutstmcare:Yes and then you can check the speed.

Me:Why this uninstall- install thing

Reliance-cutstmcare: No answer.Sir, you problem will solved this way

Me: Okay thank you, you are of no help at all.

*The REAL FUNDA and HOW TO SPEED UP A BIT>

Problem 1. **Windows Autoupdate does download in the background and causes the other websites to be open slow.

Solution 1: Turn off auto update. You can request a service pack CD from microsoft

they usually give it for free. 4weeks to ship.

Problem 2: AVG and other antivirus updates

Solution2: Ya, you got to turn off that also. Download the

updates from some other netconnection(in your office etc). Then bring

it home, then click on update in AVG and select the folder in which you

have kept the update. They are usually*.bin files. For symantec update

click on the update and it will install itself.

Problem3: The Netbooooster being blocked by the Firewall of an antivirus, or Windows XP.(uninstall-install is non-sense)

Solution3: You will have to turn off Firewall provided by an antivirus. AND for windows

firewall click on the exceptions and allow netbooster. Also click edit in the exception tab, then edit the netbooster "scope" to allow all computers even in the internet.

About the netbooster: It scales down the images in a website and

thus virtually speed up netconnection. If you now check the internet

speed on some website you will see about 100kbps download and 80kbps upload(depends).

Beware, it is basically virtual speed, the netbooster prefetchs the

download file and so it looks like it is downloading  fast, but it

is not. It is just to fool you*. If you want to cross-check see the windows task manager netconnection you will see average below 25%.:(

Finally: The netbooster will somewhat help(by scaling down, prefetch

etc). The steps that I have written here will help you ease your

suffering a bit.

God help those, who help themselves(and don’t buy relience net-connect), For other there is
