To be fair, they fixed the problem

Edit added:- To be fair, after a lot of noise from both sides, they did fix the problem. However, was the angst worth it, would I have stuck on if number portability was available? I really don’t know . . .

Advertisements notwithstanding, the reality is that once Reliance Infocomm have your money you are stuck. Their phone instrument is proprietory to their (lack of) service so any complaints from you will be handled by them knowing that you are in their trap.

In my case, I bought the instrument (Rs 5249.oo) and paid for the activation of a post paid connection (Rs 550.oo). The same day, their employee came to my home where I have lived for 38 years, did the address verification supported by copies of my passport, driving licence, PAN card number and latest credit card statement. After that, I was given the instrument and it was activated. Day 1.

On day 5 and 6 I was travelling and it didn’t work in Mumbai. Luckily I had my other phone too.

On day 8 they disconnected outgoings and said that since proof of address is negative, I will have to come to their showroom, give them a reconnection fee and probably shift to prepaid.

Their call centre operators are unable to do anything oher than ask you to go to the Reliance Store from where it was bought. The Store can only tell you that you have to pay for reconnection. This is one big scam.

I am preparing to stick it out and see what happens, and continue with my previous providor. Interim all sorts of wierd goons call up from and on behalf of their company asking me to pay reconnection fees!!
