Hi all,
To start the review, I having been using cell phones (all being GSM phones - except the current reliance phone) for a over 4 years now.
I have used BPL Mobile (Pune), and Idea (Pune) and Hutch (in Bangalore).
Currently, I am located in Bangalore and keep travelling to Pune and making calls to Pune to my family and friends. And some research on what mobile provider would be alright for my use, I ended up taking a reliance phone. I took up the reliance LG flip phone RD6000, and the Joy 499 plan. With this plan, I can make call anywhere to any number (landline, mobile, tata indicom) in india for 1 Re. I can send SMS to any number in India for 50p. Well, this comes out pretty cheap incase you make a lot of outgoing calls.
Now, coming to the roaming usage, I donot have to pay any roaming rental like other operators do. And difference in the tariff usage is that I have to pay Re 1 per minute for any incoming call. And the outgoing rates remain same wherever you go. Well, this is really an advantage.
Okay, to start with I had taken a Pune number. I moved to bangalore. And I wanted to now convert to a bangalore reliance number. It got done within a day, with no extra charges. Well, that is good service.
Coming to the other features of reliance, the RWorld is good. I donot use it much, except when I am waiting at some place and I want to kill my time. But it is a feature that you can use at Rs. 25 per month.
And the best thing, I liked it, I got the RConnect (u can use the internet using the mobile as ur modem) activated. There are no activation charges that you have to pay here. Bought a new cable for Rs. 850/-. And all that u need after this a USB port on your PC or a laptop. And browse the net at 50p a minute, and after 10pm to 6am, you are charged at 25p a minute. And if you go for a 650 Rs plan, you have access to internet upto 1GB download. Well, this cannot be provided by any other provider - not that I am aware of. I donot have any technical specifications like speed and all that in numbers. But I can easily chat on MSN, Yahoo. Check emails like Hotmail, GMail, Yahoo, surf general timesofindia, and Rediff with ease without getting frustated about speed. and the occasional few MB downloads that I want.
For me, I can carry my laptop and reliance phone wherever I go, and connect to the internet from my house in bangalore, or pune or at any place where I can get reliance network, and these rates donot matter whether u are in roaming or not.
And talking about the voice quality, it is pretty decent. No issues with the voice quality.
Initially I did have some resistance with the reliance for its network and the service backup. But today, if I have to go for another mobile phone or suggest some one a service provider, it would be reliance.
I am pretty happy with the reliance phone I have. And I can use the phone to make 1 Re calls anywhere in India, 50 p SMS to anyone in India (3 Rs for International SMS). I can connect to net from literally any place at 50p a minute. and go anywhere in India, without having to bother much on the roaming. What else can a phone give you?
