Reliance is loosing my trust

I was delighted to hear that the small box being installed on the adjoining building’s water tank was Reliance’s WiMax - and even I had Tata connection via MTNL phone line [might I add, working flawlessly and will equally superb service] I decided to take this connection.

Because Tata’s connection was 256kbps and costing me about Rs.1, 100 per month - that includes the unlimited download connection and MTNL’s phone rental - which incidentally is through a MTNL sub-dealer, for the lack of better word.

Reliance connection on the other hand was costing my Rs.1, 000 installation - out of which Rs.500 would be adjusted in my first bill and a recurring cost of Rs.1, 399 every month for a 600 kbps connection - that was getting 3 fold increased speed for just 300 more - I couldn’t resist the offer.

I signed the cheque and immediately completed the paper work - the connection was installed within a couple of days - but I was disappointed with the service - it just didn’t work.

The so called technician who came to install the thing was basically an assistant to the previous engineer and had tough time starting the laptop he had with him, I had to help and get him to attach the power cable to an outlet just to get the laptop started.

I did get the thing connected and checked all the parameters via telnet - the connection was good.

I started using it  - but my happiness was shortlived - because the connection was intermitent and I couldn’t send any emails through Outlook - even when the download was working.

I complained and complained and complained^5 - nothing - Just the same old message - we are facing some trouble with our servers and it will resolved at 5pm - well many 5pm later, I finally decided to request them for a refund and termination.

I was informed that I shall recieve the refund of my installation charges within the 45 days of the termination notice.

Let’s hope that gets done.

Luckily, I didn’t get my Tata connection disconnected - hope the guys at Tata will reduce the price and close the door on any competition.

Because, if I find another ISP willing to give me a broadband connection at a cheaper rate - I would not hesitate a moment to grab it.

I am sure that all will not end like Reliance WiMax, someone might truly give Tatas a run for their money.
