RENAULT KWID - AN ASTONIHING "KID CAR"
I have not purchsed this; but got an opportunity to ride. The KWID claims good mileage at a lower price having larger boot space in this class. Very Good ground clearance, infotainment and SUV look which no other A/B segment cars offer at present. Reverse gear seems tough as a catch is provided; may become easy; when used to. Small head lights, visbilty may be low; but fog lamps in high end models may solve the problem. Tyres are small and there is only 3 wheel nuts per wheel wheras autorickshaws are provided with four nuts(4x3=3x4; pay load per nut/bolt is same).
There is only one wiper blade as provided in Toyota Etios and Tata Nano. Tyres are of JK. No day and night rear view mirror. At higher end model, cost per cubic capacity seems same as other A/B segement vehicles. No spare/stepney is seen included(clarify?). Can cruise at 20 kmph at top gear without jerking. Engine seems very compact and hence seen that the bonnet is not crowded. Eventhough engine sounds much from outside, felt less inside and on cruising sound reduced to very low.
Shape seems less resistant to wind and unladen weight is very low compared to other vehicles in this segment and hence these may be the cause of good mileage. Rear side view is very elegant. A/c is good. Renault tried to curtail production cost and running cost of this vehicle without sacrifying the purposes intended for. For people looking for low priced A-segment, high mileage vehicle with large boot space and infotainment, the Kwid is the better option, provided it may practically give 18 - 22 km/litre in cityand highway respectively and good after sales service network including spare parts supply at reasonable rates.
