Ring out the old, Ring in the new, without fear !

In my earlier review of B&B I had mentioned my bad habit of reaching late to movies. The saga at its unheralded best continued this friday too as munching a pizza at pizza hut ate away into the first 10 minutes of the movie. Some things just never change.

Anyways, Now lets get down to business.

Ring 1 ended with copies being made of the videotape that victimised a lot of unsuspecting people. Ring 2 starts off this time with mother (Rachael) and son (Aden) moving off to a different location to escape from the incorrigible Samara Morgon - the long haired lady ghost.

However, a similar spate of murders rock this tranquil little town and Rachael discovers that the videotape is very much in circulation and is being viewed by people desirous of perilous adventure.

Things are a little different in this movie though. Samara decides to take possession of the kid Aden as she is longing for motherly love. And Rachael then gets into the business of saving her son from the clutches of Samara.

Well ! ... Pros and cons equate themselves. The pros first - The kid really acts well, it seems that he and horror movies are made for each other. Here, thankfully Samara does not call up people and threaten them if they see the videotape. The pre-interval part is scary. We had a lady scream and spill her pop-corn during a scary scene. There’s a scene when Samara gets hold of an unsuspecting and sick Aden in the batch tub. That scene is quite a visual treat with water flying around everywhere.

Unlike ’BHOOT’ no sound effects to scare you. In any case, I personally believe that the essence of a horror movie does not lie in scaring people by sound-effects. It is more to do with the visual representation of horror.

Cons - We get to see a lot more of Samara Morgon, who just dosen’t not look scary enough. The post interval part isnt scary but weaves the story together. Not a great story line and a cliche’d plot , however, the sequel is well knit in the sense that it answers questions on Samara’s history quite well.

I would recommend Ring 2 to people who have seen Ring 1. See it coz you have seen Ring 1, if you want some answers to unanswered questions that you had in Ring 1.

No sound effects to scare you. You’d expect to get a little scared pre-interval, post-interval is more like a solution to a Famous-Five mystery.

Over-all an OK-OK movie, not-so-good and not-so-bad. Get spooked out pre-interval. Post-interval it won’t be a problem for you to go to bed and sleep in peace. And yes, you wont come out of the theatre too disappointed for sure as in ’’NAINA’’. -
