“Hey saanil..! Good show, congrats on your promotion, so.. When is the party?”
“ C’mon, it’s time to celebrate man, throw us a party”
“ No… I hate the way Mrs. bhat looks at me at every party, we must throw a party to all the gang”
“ But, we are just back from the picnic last month, where do you think I should get all that money for a drinks party?”
“ Hey man, your desi drinks won’t do, we need scotch…. yaar”
“ Look saanil, let’s throw a joint party all you have to do is bear the drinks cost, we will manage the food bill”
“ so you returned from dubai, when are we opening that black label?”
“ I refuse to join you in that shoddy desi bar, they do not have any single malt whisky”
“ What the @#$#@? 180 bucks for a single peg….do you know these cheats they make 20 pegs out of every bottle of whiskey? which should be sufficient for 16 pegs max?”
Every one of us, at one or other time goes through these dialogues. So the crux of the matter is …
Yes, I can throw a drinks party but… the cost of the drinks.. That’s too much…
So………..
Wish someone could have shown me joint
1) The drinks are good and cheap
2) The food is good – even if it is ok no problem.. After drinking bellies fool. We always waste all the food ordered.
3) It will do nice… if children have some space to play.
4) You know the place should be a bit, remote, after all wives also should get chance to enjoy a drink with friends, once in a while. Without fear of, bumping in to some relative or neighbors with a glass of beer in hand.
5) No crowd, and no waiting for table.. That… kills the whole party mood.
So guys I suggest two places…
Good veg - non veg food, ample space, open place for children to play. You can bring your own drinks, no extra charges levied.
For western Railway people
1) hotel aarey garden
Location:- this place is inside aarey milk colony, you can take a rickshaw from gorgaon station or Western express highway. If you are driving get in to aarey colony from the western express highway entrance. Pay the entry fee and proceed towards powai straight on the road. You will pass the small lake on your right. After around 3-4 km on your left, you will see a small road leading in to the jungle. ( there is very very small sign board with name “aarey garden hotel” on it) this is just after the road on your left to “ Chotta Kashmir”. The small sign board is very easy to miss because I presume, you will be going for dinner so the roads are very dark in the night inside aarey colony, but now days there is quite a bit traffic on this road but keep a sharp look out on your left.
Once you take left then take a sharp right road traveling upwards around 150 Mts from the right turn, you will se lights on hill on your right, take the side road to go upwards.
It can be a bit scary especially in the night, if you do not know the road,
Incase you miss this left turn then you will come to picnic area. Just enquire with any shopkeeper who will guide you.
Do not worry if you get lost, because you may not believe it but still you are in the heart of Mumbai city so no problem.
This restaurant is huge, with lot of outdoor space, you can get your own bottles no cork charges. ( we haul crates of beer when we all go for party here )
Incase you fall short of some drinks the waiter are always eager to help you out at an extra tip.
Food is ok, and priced quite reasonably. I suggest you to try tandoor items,
children can play in open area. There is “ hukkah “ for adventures type.
As you bring in your drinks you save a lot on bill.

For Eastern people.
This place is not so convenient, its on Ghodbunder road in thane, it’s a bit away but still very much worth.
1) Hotel lemon
As I said it’s too good, you must try “ Lemon chicken” and the best part is they have ground sitting arrangements with ample cushions and rugs. Remove your shows, draw out your scotch and just unwind.
Location.:- for people coming in from Mumbai or thane, just travel straight on ghodbunder road, after the Cineworld multiplex just 2 Km’s towards ghodbunder, on your left, Bang opposite to road leading to hiranandani estate complex.
As a pointer you keep look out for hiranandani estate complex road. This hotel is on eastern express highway, exactly opposite to road leading to hiranandani. you will find group of 3 small shanty type hotels. ( from appearance they do not look like family type hotels but they are) the first from left is “ Ripples” and the middle hotel is “ Lemon”
Service is a bit of problem in this hotel with young inexperienced waiters.
Once again “ Hukkah “ is available for adventures sort. The sitting arrangement is quite unique offering complete privacy to each group. Is very crowded on Saturday nights, with most of thane college crowd.
Both places are a bit difficult to reach without own vehicles, and avoid monsoon time if possible as these are open restaurants, insects can be a problem is rainy reason.
