There is no one and nothing, having to do with blues music, better than Robert Johnson!
This double CD collection of 41 of his greatest hits will prove it to anyone.
Robert Johnson as a blues singer never received the respect and kudos he deserved while he was alive and playing his guitar and harmonica and belting out his own great style of such wonderful blues hits as, Kind Hearted woman Blues, 32-20 Blues, Cross Road Blues, Malted Milk, Love in Vain, Drunken Hearted man, etc.
His songs reflected his hard life.
He played the blues of the Mississippi Delta. The blues of the poor, black people. He played and sang from his heart about the wicked women, the boozing, the drugs and the poverty that surrounded his(and almost all other people of that area)life.
With no formal musical training, Robert Johnson was basically a young man with a dream. The dream was to be heard. His dream was to let the world know the hardships of life and broken dreams. He had no money to do this, so being the street sharp person that he was, he let himself be kept, by a woman of means. Living in her home, eating her food and meeting her friends allowed him to finally begin being heard. Maybe at least one of his dreams would come true!
He went on for years, singing in small Southern Blues Clubs, then in larger clubs and then finally, he began to be known by other musicians and asked to perform with them in larger clubs and venues.
His soulful lyrics and heartfelt playing touched the public. He made it!
And you can hear it all! Youll feel the music in your heart, the music he played from his soul.
So save about an hour and a half, to relax, sit back and listen to (in my opinion!), the greatest male Blues singer, Robert Johnson.
