If I will be asked to choose my favourite player, my choice is Robin Singh. Well, when the subject concerning Indian Cricket team is discussed, every thing ends well after a few views on Rahul, Sourav and Sachin . But no one thinks of Robin Singh. I accept that these above three names are the pillar of the Indian Cricket now, but one should never forget the dedication , the 100% commitment, the support given by the old race horse Robin. I can still remember one instance, inspite of his ill health ( he was suffering from a viral fever ), he came down to bat when India was in deep trouble and scored a valuable half century batting with the tail enders. He vomitted in the mid of his innings but still then he never forgot to take quick, short singles. In the end India won the match.
Well, Sachin, he is a maestro, he can play every delivery to perfection and can even hit a good ball into the fence, Sourav, well known for his timing and putting the deliveries into the gaps, Rahul, known for his consistency. But have any body thought of the time when then come to creese to wave their willows. They all have their fixed positions , come in the initial stage, get enough balls and to set themselves to bat and in the end get enough runs for their country. So they are remembered and are regarded as the star players .
But have anybody thought of the situation, the order, and the stage in which Robin comes to bat. Either there will be hardly any overs left for him when he has to go from the very first ball, or the three greats have been sent back to the pavilion by the opponent very cheaply, or some one of the top order has consumed a good number of deliveries so he has been sent there as a pinch hitter to smack the bowlers. This requires a strong mind like Robin to make him self compatible to the situation . There lies the greatness of this man to adjust to all situations.
In the fielding department, he cant be compared to any Indian players. He has given a new dimensions to the Indian fielding. His acrobatic efforts to perfection has tought those who think that fielding is a minor in this sport. Not only he is a prolific run getter in crisis but also he saves almost 15 - 20 runs in every match in the field.
He has fought his place for his country and hope he will remain there for many years to come.
