After an hiatus Bollywood is back with a good flick with entertainment, value, good music and fast paced narration.
The movie starts off in the present and then goes back(to the past) and forth(back to the present). The characters of importance are friends Faran Akthar and Arjun Rampal.
The other two friends (Purab Kolhi & Luke Kenny) seem to be there for just filling up to play the instruments and for the band “Magik”. Then you have other characters like the women folk (Arjuns wife Debbie, Farans Wife, Farans collage fling and Koel Puri as Purabs crush).
The woman form a pivotal role to keep the movie going for 3 hours. The theme of friends going separate because of misunderstandings, was seen earlier in “Dil Chahata Hai” . However the reason for the split was more genuine in “Dil Chahata Hai”, here you wonder why did it happen and then keep wondering after you leave the hall.
The stage scenes are brilliant like a rock concert and is so well shot. The acting was just above average with Faran. He was better with his vocal skills and directorial ventures. Arjun was a total disappointment. His acting was haywire, sometimes you felt he is not in the character. Purab and Luke were outstanding in their roles. Farans wife’s character was played so well. Underplayed but a prominent. Arjuns wife’s character was also well played. Faran’s girlfriends role was so miniscule that you fail to notice the gal.
Though this review is pointing more at the negatives of the film, it is sure a good film and the kind of climax last happened with “Chak De India” where you are waiting for the win.. If you noticed the last song, Arjun Rampal is out of control in his acting. The camera also traced Arjun not stringing his guitar in very crucial scenes. The film has flaws but it is quiet refreshing to watch after quiet a while, Though it is not as appealing as its predecessor “Dil Chahata Hai” Alls well that ends well, minus Luke who dies of brain tumor all goes well.
