I have no idea why people are talking about Dil Chahta Hai(Ok, it is Farhan’s movie) when they want to review about Rock ON. At some level there might be some similarities but that you could do it to any movie. Right?!
I read the review in one of the papers and written the movie off presuming that Farhan Akhtar like Sonu Nigam wants a share of the ON screen glamor. Honestly it annoyed me. But a good Rock buddy of mine told me that the movie was great and I trust her.generally;)
So I took the leap and Boy, once I saw the movie, I was so wrong. The movie was really rocking. But as you all know by know the real heroes are Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Kudos! you can almost always feel them through out the movie. especially during the competition.
Coming back to the movie, it is no more than 6 rating. the movie gets slow at times and of course there is typical Bollywood drama towards the end. Screenplay is brilliant and as is switching the time lines(though it is nothing novel but done more flawlessly)
The music. is the Real Head Banging, Foot tapping stuff. The problem is it does not leave your head once it gets in! Yeah, there might be other Indian Rock Bands which might be better and more hardcore. the point is at a Silver Screen level, attempting to create this level of music is the extreme Risk that the producers have taken which speaks a lot in itself. Now I am sure there would be 10 other movies in the pipeline with similar themes and music lines wanting to get similar limelight;)
Farhan, as some one said, looks really like a million bucks.For a debut, he is brilliant(not as brilliant as Hrithik Roshan in his debut) and as a singer he is. well. not too bad. But the thing that works out for him and for the movie is the mix of all. the real MAGIC. Arjun Rampal is pretty good but Purab Kohli is really great and so is Luke Kenny!
Rock ON.dil karta hai tv tower pe main chad jaoon, chilla chilla ke main ye sabse kehdoon .rock on! You mush watch it! Rock On. You will like it!
PS: Given the era of overhyped feminism where everything some how has to be about women, The movie for a change is all about men and their lives/issues. The actresses in the movie, may be hence, are chosen NOT from the top 10 heroines and their characters are extremely very well written.(All you women, before you label me as MCP, I tell you that I respect you all alot but I always failed to understand the over hyped celebration of femininity which is generally observed by the ones who have a Louis Vuitton(atleast a replica) but this never touched the real opressed women for example in rural India. Anyways, this is a topic for some other discussion)
