I went to movie off chance, on sunday noon, though I wanted to see the movie the time it got release, I couldnt manage due to my busy schedule.
So, How was it?
I had mixed feelings about it, to say it staright & fairer.
One one hand Farhan Akhtar has imressed me not just because of this movie but as a whole, Director of four films{(Positive(2007), Don - The Chase Begins Again(2006), Lakshya(2004), Dil Chahta Hai(2001)}, Acting in two movies{The Fakir of Venice(2007), Rock On(2008)} Writer in two films{Don - The Chase Begins Again(2006), Dil Chahta Hai(2001)} Lyricist in two songs{Bride and Prejudice, Lagaan( O Rey Chori:- My heart, it speaks a thousand words - Then I’m in love for sure)} Producer in two films including Rock On{Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.*(2006)} & now What!
A singing role in Rock On!. What is this guy made up of, Well it is difficult to get noticed for good reasons if you have a celebrity kid, & then this guy go on doing more & more difficult things, & continue to excel in them,
I can not however discredit the other casts nor can say that Farhan Akhtar is the core(read star) of the film. I feel the core of the film is definately Arjun Rampal Aka Joseph. He puts the soul to the film, the story no doubt been twistedly taken from other films, but an excellent performance by Arjun Rampal has shown that he has more to him than just pure Macho body. He looks cool in his hairs & glasses, where as Farhan at some time do look overdoing the Rock part.
Luke Kenny is the other character, one should not forget, though I could not say much to his acting , but the character fit him like hands to the glove, he blends in superbly untill he speaks that is, Looks cool as a band member of "MUJIK" He certainly has came a long way from dancing on MJ tunes to VJ in [V] to Bombay Boys. I would rather suggest, if I may that he rather makes a good music video director
Purab Kohli was to an extent wasted, One could have seen lot better from him, but he nevertheless makes an amusing & convincing part of the band & hence the story.
Prachi Desai, I think was a dissapointing, she carried on her legacy of Soap Serials from where she was arose. Better stick to Ekta! I guess.
Shahana Goswami is a talented actress, I guess this film has not done her enogh justice. she looks convincing, but could do lot better.
Koel Purie I guess was just passing through the film as a guest artist. Though looks cool with the band.
I hate to be critic, But I had more expectations from Rock On. Having said that It is certainly a movie one should watch out for, for all the good reasons.
Shankar Eahsan Loy- Superb Music, as they say Rock on(Read Bulls Eye) . Thier music infact has so much energy so much similarities to the rock music going in india, that some time once could let go off the poor lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Javed Akhtar- I had always been a great fan of his songs. But some how he could not entierly connect with the soul of Rock On. Having said that the best lyrics of this film is "Tum Ho Toh" & "Ye Tumhari Meri Baatein".
Farhan Akhtar- Very good singer, looks great as a Rock band lead singer. Looks very un impressive in a stock broker! Could do lot better than having some more emotions on his face than just clinching Jaw. But never stop singing, specially with the rocking music. What next Farhan?
A real Rock was the performance by band "RADIO" couldnt understand why it is not part of the Music CD.
If you ever been a fan of Rock music, you should not give the movie a miss.
True to the words at the end I came out & got myself an original CD( not the pirated one).
