Sales targets!
Politics!
Puffery!
Bribery!
All of these are the new keywords for the sales and marketing industry or rather the whole corporate world. The targets are being increased day by day even after knowing that the whole community is affected by the recession and slowdown in demand all over the world. Why do the companies not understand that if a CEO can defer the purchase of a Mercedes car due to recession than a normal consumer can also defer the purchase of a Bike, and even after that the sales targets for the front line sales people are on status quo?
Why the top management does forget that sales people are not magician who will sell each and everything given to them even if there is no demand in the markets?
“Rocket Singh” is one of the movie which discusses the travails of a salesman who does not know how to sell things with puffery and bribes rather he believes in simple rule of sale which says “don’t try to sell whatever you have rather arrange the thing which are needed by the clients” but the management does not understand it and they show the way out to that man.
Let us come to the movie as a whole now. What all I can say is that Shimit is successful to a large extent in showing what he wants to, but the movie does not seems to be a story of a salesman only, rather it’s about a person with courage and ethics, and he wants to show the world that you don’t need to lie to sell you product. What all you need is the courage and dedication towards your work.
Ranbeer Kapoor was fantastic with his performance and does not show even a small part of inefficiency in his work. I think he is going to give us some more blockbuster performance in near future.
The story was simple and the execution was also good, the best part of the movie was that it was a neat and clean movie unlike nowadays Yashraj movies’ which seems to be filled with unnecessary “should be edited” scenes. All of the co-stars were good at their work.
The movie could have been more fun filled if the focus would be solely on salesmanship, the part of the industry which contribute the most but does not get adequate respect and honor. There is a constant fear of getting fired if you don’t achieve your sales targets. Here I don’t want to say that there should not be targets et al, but the top management should also consider that the world is not always in boom.
At last I would like to thank Shimit and Aditya Chopra to provide a good to watch movie.
