No. Dude aint trying to pull a badman Gulshan Grover over Lola. He just got impressed with this ficken gut german movie - - Lola Rennt or Run Lola Run - as its more commonly known in the englische sprechende world. A fliegender Elefant set the ball rolling with the repeated nagging of have you see it... have you seen it, denting Dudes confidence of having covered almost all of IMDB; the stuff that matters. Fearing the pestering to continue until Dude bricht all das, Walker did decide to post it. Danke Schon, Elefant.
Lola Rennt (1998)
Lola Rennt is a milestone German movie about unpredictability of human life. Everything in the life is so interdependent and connected; a butterfly flipping a wing, the wrong way, in Florida can cause a Tsunami in a faraway Borneo. This phenomenon is referred to as Butterfly effect in chaos theory. Events delayed or forwarded by a second can mean the difference between life and death. Lola complements BE with Time-Travel Paradox - if you know the future can it be changed?. BE and TTP make a nice combo in Hollywood movie Butterfly Effect. Usually these two notions are the Sci-Fi movies stuff. Surprisingly Lola isnt a SciFi movie, and yet uses these themes effectively.
Lolas lover Manni is caught in a Catch-22 situation having lost a money bag in a train. Bag has been picked by a bum who just happened to be there (quirk of fate). The money belongs to Mannis boss, Ronnie, a ruthless drug dealer. Manni will be killed, if he doesnt give it to his boss in 20 minutes. He calls up Lola, and blames her for not picking him up causing him to travel by train. Lolas helpless as her motorcycle has been stolen. Sensing Mannis desperation and his plan to rob a nearby supermarket to make good the loss; Lola Runs to get 1000 Deutsche Marks and reach her lover in time to save him.
What happens in the next 20 minutes is repeated in three increments. Difference each time being the way a dog and a boy tackle and/or get tackled by Lola in an animated kick-start. These changes by a second change the fortunes of not only Manni and Lola, but also of anyone who comes across her.
What made Lola Run
Props and backgrounds effectively used by director Tom Tykwer, who also wrote it. Be it Lolas striking red hair, the background in the casino, Lolas scream that shatters glass and the Red ambulance . Great running and acting by Lola (Franka Potente). Shes the same girl who did Sheisse...Sheisse... in Bourne Identity! An immersing background score keeps the ears tuned as the eyes remain hooked to the screen, as not to miss the action happening at a breakneck pace. Dude detected some Indian tunes too [in the third installment]; arent we the bosses in the cause-effect karma thingamajig?
I liked it very much. The way things change for the better or worse each time. The way Lola learns with each Run. The way audiences learn new things with each Run. More you run the DVD, more you learn and unlearn. If you dont like it - Verpiss Dich.
Lola Runs... Dude Walks... Elephants Fly... A doctor sews dead bodies.... A reviewer drinks lot of coffee...An Indian cowboy rides along... all these accidental happenings result in Faisal and Jasmine Running to buy more harddisks. Rest all is balls.
