Metallica have been one band on the rise. They came into existence with a team of 2. Yes believe me, a guitarist who could scream (James Hetfield) and one Freak of a drummer. This man, yes, Lars Ulrich is simply in a class of his own ever since 1981 when this Rule-All-Fans band came into existence. With greats like Cliff Burton, Chris Isaak and Michael Kamen of Pink Floyd fame, Metallica started reaching great heights.
They also suffered great losses when people started shuffling into and out of their group and also when Cliff Burton died. But to put all these in their shadows, Metallica holds the credits of being the only Band to have gelled PERFECTLY WELL with Symphony. The result of this is an awesome fusion called as Symphony and Metallica. A Live performance which Im sure no metal head would miss if performed in India. And for christ sakes, I know that Bangalore is the metal heaven for most artistes to perform.
Trust me but this 2 CD collection is an awesome MUST-HAVE, though all songs may not be to everyones liking. But the following are few songs that I feel everyone who love guitar (Those who love Presley, The doors, Judas & Maiden) should listen to atleast 2 times and they will know why this album is so famous. Youll really want to rewind back to that awesome tune.
Nothing Else Matters I can hardly imagine anyone telling This song is no good when he/she has heard this song completely once. The lyrics really hold a lot of meaning and aims at focussing a person in his career. This song even has an acoustic version with Chris Isaak wherein the song is generally concentrated on the lyrics and guitar with the drums only filling up the music gaps. These lyrics always resound in my mind:
Never care for what they say, Never care for games they play
Never care for what they do, Never care for what they know
One A Classic hard rock song which was created to imbibe into us the pain a soldier would undergo during a classic WW type war. More than only listening to this song, watch the full version of this song video and trust me, you will have a tear or two in your eyes at the end of the song. See if these words make you curious
Darkness Imprisoning me, all that I see, absolute horror, I cannot live, I cannot die, trapped in myself body my holding cell...
No Leaf Clover One song that proved to be a Dark Horse of this album. This song is famous only in its S&M version. I cannot put to words how glorious those violins, cellos and guitars sound in this song. This song sounds to be about Hope and Goals while suddenly the different tone makes it look as if you woke up from a dream about Hopes and Goals. These are the ground-breaking lyrics of this song:
Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of the tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way
Sad But True Well, this song is sung by ones self conscience. Ones innerself, when it gets the better of you, this is what happens. Sad But True is one more classic song from Metallica which raises your sentiments to a new high. Loaded with meaning, these lyrics are scintillating:
Im your pain while u repay, SAD BUT TRUE!!......You, youre my mask, youre my cover my shelter, you, youre the mask, youre the one whos blamed
The Call of Ktulu This is an Instrumental, a legendary 9 minute song which seems to contain all the guitar notes of most of Metallicas hit songs. I have heard this track quite a number of times. It sure gets me rocking each and everytime. It dont have any lyrics and still, the lead and bass guitar do the trick.
Enter Sandman This is the number where a kid is taught to pray. Sandman is one of Metallicas hot tracks and is next only to Nothing Else Matters. This is like teaching a Kid how bad the world is if you think it is bad. But being aware is a lot necessary.
Exit Light, Enter Night, Take my hand, Were off to never-never land
There are a lot of Songs which simply power off to great heights in Metallicas albums. But S&M has many more songs which can be listened to. But many people dont like these following songs:
For Whom The Bell Tolls, Fuel, Wherever I May Roam, Of Wolf and Man & The Memory Remains.
