Music Review of Yaara Dildara (1991)

The YAARA DILDARA Music Review (1991)

1991.... The film was a flop due to flop actor... but the music in Yaara Dildara (by Jatin-Lalit) was the first to be launched for the career of one of the most successful music directors of the 90`s. Yaara Dildara was launched on in 1991, starring newcomers Aasif Sheikh and Ruchika Pandey, but unfortunately did not acquire as much popularity as it would have nowadays. The album comprises of a total of 8 tracks; 6 of which really stand out amidst clutter.

Bin Tere Sanam is a beautiful and magic song sung by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy. I would say that it`s the best hindi commercial song (film song) I`ve ever heard in my life! It sounds completely different from conventional Hindi film tunes. It`s got an arresting rhythm, thanks to it`s largely innovative arrangements, some excellent singing and some simple lyrics Tere hi dam se hogi dil ki murad poori, tere bagair jaanam hai zindagi adhuri., lays the foundation for more good surprises later in the album. The song also reappears as a western version later on the album; one doesn`t notice considerable difference between the two versions. (Notice that even the remixes which have been recently released are in my opinion too-much talked about, even much more than the original song....)

The second on the album is the somewhat less appealing Hamare Papa Aur Hum by Amit Kumar and Bhupendra which is a song about father and son both singing rather typical https://lyrics. This song was not featured in the movie (or maybe cut out), so it seems not being popular when it was released. Both sound convincing and genuine as they sing lyrics like Hamare papa aur hum, milake rakhe jo kadam, to yeh duniya apni kasam maare salaam. Unfortunately, I find no way that this one can be better than the first one of the album! (The first obviously a Chart-Topper, being a LOVE-SONG)

Tum Hi Hamari Ho Manzil My Love is probably the only Hindi film song one has heard where the combination of English with Hindi lyrics doesn`t jar. Udit Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal sound deeply in love on this one. Check out the part of the song with the mouth organ; sounds beautiful. It’s a love-sentimental song and definitely among the best featured in Yaara Dildara. The Song-Picturisation for this song, I believe was also very good!

Next is Woh Jo Kaha Tha Maine by Udit Narayan and Kavita Krishnamurthy which is another song excellently composed by Jatin-Lalit. Passionately sung by both singers, it boasts of some nice lyrics too Woh jo kaha tha maine who kar dikhaaya na, baazi who aan dil ki main jeet laya na. Only thing going against this number is a jarring piece of synthesizer that comes completely unexpected.

Koi Chahe Na Chahe is well sung by Nitin Mukesh and Kavita Krishnamurthy. It features some really nice flute music, but some equally bad background singing by the chorus. Lyrics are really good though Jo bhi mere dil pe beeta, pyaar ki baazi main hi jeeta, yeh to hona hi tha, koi chahe na chahe are some of the main texts in this song.

Ab To Tumhe Hai Dikhaana is a get-up-and-go song. The first song in the movie, the composition is quite passable and to top that, Udit Narayan and Abhijeet sound rushed. About two gangs fighting for power, this is one of the weak songs of the soundtrack.

Le Le De De Ka Police Mein Kya Kaam Hai is THE weakest song on the album. Sung by eunuchs (the credits say Abhijeet and chorus), the tune is a spoof on Mere angane mein tumhaara kya kaam hai. This one only spoils the good work done by the other tracks.

On the whole, Yaara Dildaara has some excellent songs and a couple of bad ones. But Bin Tere Sanam itself makes the CD worth buying.

However, I do not say that this is one of the very best albums of Jatin-Lalit, but more like an unpopular album. I agree that we`re late with this album review...

- Imagine it`s already 15 years old now!
