A modern mahabharatha?

It’s full of twists n turns.........like the eventful epic of india...........and at frequent intervals reiterates the fact that it IS the mahabharatha of modern india. To be honest, SAARTHI, so far, is a better product among the rest of the emotional warfares happening in the television arena........at least there is a backbone to the entire melodrama that’s taking place in the serial!

Probably, to provide a link to the great epic, or to give a mythical touch to the story, Lord Krishna himself is cast as a character in the story.............and his function is as an omniscient observer of the plethora of characters. No doubt he is the invisible force, the SAARTHI, reckoned by the director to put things in place after KURUKSHETRA........

Among the characters, mansin and his shakuni-like BIL, impress. The other main protagonists include Arjun, Manasi, Bhumika and Suraj Kiran.

Arjun seems like a total miscast. He is unable to carry off the role of the mythical arjuna, the cynosure of all women and the envy of men.

Suraj Kiran fits right into the role of the sacrificial KARNA , but he is more submissive and meltingly sweet nowadays than his character was projected to be in the beginning........

Bhumika is sickeningly sweet and innocent, i know this a cliched expression but that’s the fact. Her love looks totally out of place and illogical.

Manasi bhabhi belongs to the ideal woman category(apart from bhumika) but she is no PANCHALI in the sense she has only one husband and her relationship with her brother -in-law borders on brother-son lines.

On the whole, SAARTHI is a treat to watch based on how the protagonists shape on the lines of the epic story............sometimes the emotions and actions go a bit overboard but it is better than n average soap tearjerker.
