First of all, Let me wish all Mouthshut readers a very happy Diwali.Sanjay Leeela Bhansali is famous for his unique and impressive style of filmmaking, Black is one of my all time favorites so, Saawariya was the must see for me.I watched on news channels that people don’t like it much so I went with less expectations.
*PLOT:
*Raj is a struggler, got a job as singer in local bar located in kind of red-light area, found a place to stay with 94 year old Lilipop. Local sex workers are his friends. He met a girl named Sakeena, fell in love at first sight...
Sakeena is a girl who is waiting for someone, Raj loves her endlessly, unconditionally. So, what will happen in the end, Who will find true love, in what form of love? To know the answers you have to wait till climax...
*PLUSES:
*This is a SLB movie, so it has written SLB all over right from the first frame. The movie is completely picturised in indoor set. SLB has used colour "Blue" and its different shades throughout the movie. The movie is a visual treat.
Another Best aspect of the movie is Music. Whether it’s background score or soundtrack, music scores big time. Every song is melodious, picturised beautifully and timeless.
Salman Khan has very brief performance and we all know about his amazing screen-presence, so I don’t want to write anything. Rani Mukharjee acted well in the role of a sex-worker. Her scene with Zohra Sehgal is very good.
Zohra Sehgal, I don’t have any words to describe. At 94, she gives yet another (after Cheenikum) heart-warming performance. I just love her.
Now, about debutants Ranbir n Sonam. Sonam looks very simple yet beautiful, acted gracefully n doesn’t look immature in a complex role. Her role is not a typical bollywood role, so she has to wait for a glamorus role to be a poster girl.
Ranbir has a huge burden on his shoulders to carry on legacy of First family of Bollywood. The guy is very promising, acted very well. Again his role is also not a typical bollywood hero role, I guess such roles are not good for debutants. I am sure, Ranbir will come into top bracket with one role which requires Action, Dance, Comedy.(anyways acting is not that important these days)
SLB made Black which was next to cinemetic perfection for me (I don’t care even if it was inspired from some hollywood movie). SLB is a cinemetic poet, each frame is so good. He has extracted good performances from entire cast, technically movie is superb. Whoever are interested in minute details of movie making, will love this movie.
*MINUSES:
*Again SLB, but as a writer. This movie has complicated storyline, which will not be enjoyed by masses. Movie is also slow paced, it tastes your patience. But this is his style of moviemaking, he takes time to build a story.
I seriously feel that this movie represents part of his life. That’s why Ranbir’s character is very well written but same cannot be said about Sonam’s character. Sometimes you feel that her character is confused or may be I am not intelligent enough to understand (Anyway girls are very mysterious to me, they can hide anything like a deep ocean...)
*MY VIEW:
*In a recent interview SLB said that he likes two ras out of nine ras very much "Shringar" and "Viraha". This movie is all about Viraha-ras. SLB has made this movie totally from heart.
This movie will turn out to be another "Mera Naam Joker". Commercially this movie can not be Super Hit due to its limited appeal. But this movie will be considered as one of the landmark movies of recent years, it’s a path braking cinema. You will not mind giving it a place in your personal library.
So if you are looking for a fun-filled movie, don’t go for Saawariya. Go for Saawariya to feel a movie, I was able to connect to this movie, hopefully you will also be able to.
