Vijay films have ceased to oblige to being a great musical hit. Apart from Kaadhalukku Mariyaadhai and Friends (music IR) with some of his soft movies like Thullatha Manamum Thullum (music SAR) he has always been contented to satisfy front-bencher rather than the mass music lovers. Sachein doesnt change a bit from his usual formula.
Ive heard about Devi Sri Prasad, but unfortunately this is the first full album I listened to. Believe me he has failed to impress, in my point of view. Barring Vidyasaagar, no MD has been able to satisfy the front-benchers and the music lovers in one album in recent times.
Here we go, my views and rating on the music.
Va Va Va En Thalaiva - Shankar Mahadevan
A catchy number, should be the introduction song for Vijay. Shankar Mahadevan is at his best. The bit between pallavi and charanam is a peppy one. Shankar Mahadevan adds flavor to the songs with his impeccable modulation. The key part of the song though is chinukku chinukku chin sachin.... The lyrics in the first charanam is like Vijay taking a dig at some of his tinsel town competitors. A number that doesnt disappoint.

Kanmoodi Thirakkumbothu - Devi Sri Prasad
A soft number that I presume is the one that runs through in the background on the first meeting between the lead pair. The voice is very similar to the famous hindi singer, Gurdasmaan, but was taken aback when I saw it as the music director himself. The western beat that flows through the song in the background, the jingles like chorus between the pallavi and charanam and the sax bit are pleasing. Lyrics are also enchanting. A good number that is very different from the recent trend of fast paced Kuthu songs.

Gundu Manga Thoppukulle - Jassie Gift, Malathi
A trademark folk-like song that I was expecting would not be a part of this film. Agast the director has stuck to the recent trend. Jassie Gift is really adds flavor to the song. He could well try out his hand with other music directors too. Malathi shot to prominence with Manmatharaasa but its a pity that she is being used for these songs only. She has a great voice that could imitate the great singer K.B.Sundarambal. Wish that she is used more constructively.

Dai Dai Dai Kattikkoda - Karthik, Sunitha Sarathy
Another folk-western mix. Must be the song that Bipasha Basu dances for!!! This song doesnt catch me as the first two did. Its a very ordinary song. The lyrics are also a bit mediocre but it matches the current standards prevailing in masala films. This song is the last on my list.

Beat of Sachein
The beat or the theme music of the film, its pleasing. The jathi recital that starts the instrumental and the solo female that follows are a good combi. The use of veena to portray a classical and western mix is the really the backbone of the tune being so pleasing.

Vaadi Vaadi
One peppy number, its a fast paced kuthu song. It strongly reminds me of the era where each film had a Ghana song. Vijay is the best bet for these songs as he has sung a number of songs in the fast. The lyrics suggest that whatever new music that hits the streets, these songs never lose their glamour. Every music director has tried and succeeded in using these songs to pep up the pace of the movie. Hope this song does the same for this film.
