Cold and cold

Bought myself a new Samsung 1.5 tonne ac, about 2 yrs back..and that is what this review is about. as with my newer reviews, I shall try to categorise the entire thing into parts. so here goes: - the need - pre-sales - the machine - warranty /servicing - post sale customer service

the need I was new in Mumbai at that time, and was moving into an apartment. Was furnishing my home and needed at least one airconditioner. We happened to buy most of our home appliances from Vijay Sales and thought of buying the ac from there as well. Used for a bedroom, and need a 1.5 tonne thing.

pre-sales Vijay Sales pushed the Korean makes, Sansung and LG. perhaps the commission is higher in these cases. The seemed to be fairly competitively priced and Vijay Sales also gave me a discount on the MRP to make things more lucrative. So I bought it.

the machine The machine is actually nothing spectacular as far as looks go, but is as compact as the modern day a.c. units. Things are conveniently placed too. Has an energy saver feature and yes the insta chill thing actually works and cools off the air very rapidly. The remote is press button type and does not have an LCD panel to show stuff, but that is fine...can live without that. The a.c can pull temperature down to 18degC, would have preferred for it to go down another 2 deg at least, like many other a.c.s do.

warranty /servicing during the warranty period, a non-Samsung servicing company services the machine. All that they do is clean the a.c., nothing more. They clean the a.c. and dirty your house thoroughly. They also have the habit of dropping in when they feel like without making an appointment and then leave a slip saying that they had visited. Then you got to call and fix time etc. A bit painful, I must say.

post sale customer service Now, my ac is out of the warranty period, and the remote has stopped working. either the remote has gone bad, or the sensor on the a.c. unit has gone bad. have tried to call Samsung’s service folk. Again, they drop in without notice...or way later than the appointed time. They would call you to say that they will call again and confirm time, but then again drop in just like that. So, have been trying to get these guys to visit me for the last two weeks without success. so bottomline, good a.c., two years is too less for the remote to conk off and service sucks.
