Purchased a Samsung Corby CDMA (F339) as I wanted a CDMA EVDO phone for high-speed email downloads. After buying and using a Samsung Star for sometime, I was expecting similar quality and features from this more expensive phone. Its an absolute DISAPPOINTMENT from a brand like Samsung with a QUALCOMM chipset!
The phone reboots automatically ~70% times when I open any URL, or SMS messages.
The display quality, screen resolution, contrast, brightness, colours, are all absolutely disappointing from a company like Samsung for a Rs. 8700 phone in todays world. Ditto for the camera - it doesnt show full screen in video or picture mode. The picture/video quality and screen is worse than a economy Rs. 1500 handset.
The relatively far cheaper Samsung Star (GSM) is several times better for the camera as well as the display, and touch screen, sensitivity, reliability, and consistent and fine resolution. I am liking the Star. The phone takes ages to open the web-browser. The HTML display is the worse beyond anyones imagination. It doesnt respect display size, no resizing. Effectively, you cannot read anything.
I configured the Exchange Sync app. The phone doesnt download emails as configured for (5 KB). Each time, I have to download the email. The display is useless. after 3-5 presses I start to see the same bad HTML browser coming up. Ofcourse, the display is so poor, no formatting possible to re-size the text/width to fit the screen and make it readable. It can only zoom. The scrolling is again 1mm per swipe. Can easily take 20 mins to read a 4 line email message! Forget attachments. Cannot be more insulting use of the screen real estate by a so called smart phone.
Even after experimenting for 2 weeks, could not find a way to change the alarm alert tone from the default one. The call history is unfriendly, each time you will see a long list of emails in the call history and have to apply filters to see only the phone calls. Ofcourse, the output display cannot be unfriendlier than this.
I registered a complaint about the reliability with Samsung company outlet, and on call-center, email. I was asked to visit the service center. The experience there is too bad. The staff at Samsung is absolutely unprofessional and untrained. There are no instructions / process provided. They have no online system to find phone history unlike Nokia (I recall the experience at Nokia earlier for my 6275). There is no reception, no queue or info counter, you have to directly deal with the service technician at your own fighting with others. The staff wasted 40 minutes of my time before even talking to me. The staff was just doing some paperwork or attending something else, and wasted my 40 mins. Finally, they spoke to me, and refused to accept the phone in absence of a bill or receipt of purchase. What a service. I am back on my own. Regret buying this handset.
