I purchased this TV in Feb 1999. Since then I have been enjoying my TV a lot. I did lot of market survey before purchase. I saw so many models and finally chosen 761BN. It has got an extra inch wide (the uncut picture) that really matters when u want to see the full frame of the telecast and from video (VCD/VHS Tape)..
Picture
This TV is equipped with Vision Plus (one of its kind, by Samsung) picture tube (29+1 inch) for viewing the actual frame size that is being telecasted and u would not miss the cutting of the frame.
This TV has got four picture formats namely, Plus, Normal, Zoom and wide (16:9) The Plus mode is the full frame of the telecasted, Normal is the one the conventional picture frame, Zoom ? this is vertical zoom and makes wide format to 4:3 format, Wide-this makes the 4:3 frame to 16:9 by shrinking the picture size vertically.
This TV has got five Picture modes, namely, Standard, Dynamic, Movie, Mild and Custom. Standard is the one which is set by the factory settings for brightness, sharpness, color, and contrast, Dynamic ? makes more bright picture, Movie ? this for feeling like a theatre, Mild ? this can be used for low light conditions (night, etc), Custom ? User defined values for brightness, color, sharpness and contrast.
Sound
The 761bn TV is equipped with NICAM stereo and AV stereo. It has got Bass, Treble and Balance (L, R) adjustments. The sound quality is not as good as music systems (man this is TV, all u have to see is picture quality first), I connected the audio out to my hi fi system and getting theatre like sound effect
Five sound modes make the user to select based on his taste that are Standard, Music, Movie, Speech and Custom. User has freedom to set his requirements on Custom mode.
In addition to these, u can put the Pseudo Stereo ON for MONO reception to get simulated stereo effect.
Tuning
This TV has tuner that will automatically tunes and stores the signals, of course u can tune and store manually, channel sorting, fine tuning, also available and all these can be done by using remote.
The Remote
The remote comes with this TV is very nice and has large buttons placed ergonomically. This remote unit is full function and u can access any function through menu driven software so easily by using minimum number of buttons. Secondary functions buttons are kept lower part and the size are small (rectangular) and well designed. Most commonly used buttons are big and round.
AV Connectivity
This TV is equipped with 2 AV in and 1AV out. The connectors are ergonomically place at both on rear and on side. On the side there is one Headphone socket nicely placed. I like all these, I connect the two AV in to my VCR and VCD Hi Fi system and connect the AV out to my Hi Fi system that will make a home theatre.
This TV is capable of receiving world multi color formats like PAL, SECAM, NTSC (two versions), Sound formats like B/G. D/K, K, I etc.
It has got other features like Real Time Clock, ON timer, OFF timer, Sleep, Mute, Blue back, child lock etc.
Summary
I purchased this TV with a cute stand for Rs 35, 000/- and I never regret about it. So far it has never down. It has been more then 3 years I have never encounter any problems with this TV tough I put on my TV for the maximum time. I strongly recommend this one ?cause u need not spend money on repairs or service, as it does not require. Of course I called the Samsung service for clarifying my doubts, the service is prompt and cooperative.
