Nice features

Design & features

The Samsung Galaxy On8 is using a metal frame and the removable back is made of plastic but with metallic finishing. Build quality and finishing is very good. Handset is comfortable to hold, battery can be removed.

It’s a dual SIM handset you can use 2x micro SIM’s and there is third separate slot – for micro SD card. OTG is supported.

Samsung Galaxy On8 specifications

CPU : 1.6GHz Samsung Exynos Octa core with Mali T720 GPU

Display : 5.5 inch Super AMOLED with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution

Memory & Storage : 3GB RAM, 16GB ROM and 128GB micro SD

Sensors : Accelerometer, proximity and Light

Weight : 165 grams

Features : 4G LTE, VoLTE, NFC, WiFi, GPS and Bluetooth

Battery : 3300 mAh removable

Performance

The handset performed well, did not heat-up, max battery temperature was 33 degrees. For normal usage this is good but when it comes to gaming the handset lagged. Modern combat 5 game clearly lagged and so did Asphalt 8 in high visual quality mode. Asphalt 8 game played well in medium and was much better in low visual quality mode.

Sound was loud and clear, reliance Jio worked and there was no issues with WiFi, GPS, NFC and Bluetooth.

Benchmark

Quadrant : 19713

AnTuTu : 43464 / 6338

Nenamark 2 : 59.6fps

Disk Speed : 162 MB/s read / 58 MB/s write

Multi Touch : 10 point

Camera

The rear 13MP camera is with an f/1.9 aperture and front camera is 5MP shooter. Camera quality is above average. I have attached some sample images below. Rear camera can shoot 1080p videos – the video quality is also great ( check video review) . Camera Rating 4 out of 5

Battery

The removable 3300 mAh battery does an impressive job. You can expect 7 to 10 hours of non-stop moderate to heavy usage on a single charge.

Samsung Galaxy On8 Battery Performance ( time / battery % drop / estimated battery temperature)

Running Benchmark app – 10 minutes / 2% / 32 degrees

Asphalt 8 + MC5 game play – 31 minutes / 5% / 32 degrees

FHD video playback with full brightness ( WiFi /4G on) – 21 minutes / 5% / 33 degrees.

It took me 2 hours 30 minutes to charge the handset from 1% to 100% using wall charger.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy On8 is a powerful handset but not for gaming purpose. Key highlight is 4G VoLTE – you can use your Jio SIM, above average camera and impressive battery life.

If you are looking for brand and not into gaming then the Galaxy On8 is a good option, however for Rs. 15, 900 the handset is still pricey.
