I had a Sony J6 for almost 18 months till Aug 2004 when I decided I had had enough of it. I tried asking friends about the phone I should go for. Almost everyone vouched for Nokia straight on. But as luck would have it, I somehow was keen on taking a phone with good resolution. And Samsung (in those days) was the one with 65K display. The only competition was Nokias 6600 which somehow I thought was a tad too bulky & round for my liking.
I studied Samsungs website and decided in favor of E700. I took the Samsung SGH-E700 for the same price (Rs 18000) as Nokia 6600! And was I ready for the shocks! Not only was there no Bluetooth, the Infrared was only for Phonebook transfers! Now who wants to transfer phonebook entries through infrared? Anyways, though the phone was supposed to be in the premium segment, basic features like Speaker Phone (handsfree) are absent!
Not even a Photo-Caller-ID is there! Camera photos can be transferred only through an extra cable which you have to buy separately. What use do you make of the camera then? The photos in low light are useless unlike the Nokia Camera-Phone results.
The net access is too complicated. You cant receive ringtones thru MMS/SMS (they are non-compliant). No ringtone composer. Whatever ringtones you can have, come built-in with the phone .. make merry with them! No password protection for the Photos you click or the Messages you receive / send. The MMS again is too complicated to compose & operate.
Even the basic voice quality is not too good. The antenna is rather weak. The phone loses signal pretty quickly.
The only plus point altogether is the look. The phone looks beautiful and thats about all. I deeply regret my decision of taking this phone against Nokia 6600. Its just a BASIC phone with camera -- at an exorbitant price. I would rather value the phone at around Rs 7, 000-8, 000. Anything above that, its not worth it.
