Disappointing Experience Not the Right Environment for Young Children

I enrolled my child in this school hoping for a supportive and nurturing environment, but unfortunately, our experience has been extremely disappointing.

As part of my childs daily snack routine, I pack fruits, nuts/seeds, and a small milk rusk. Two weeks ago, my child came home upset, saying he was being bullied by classmates for bringing junk food. To my shock, the teacher had reportedly encouraged the entire class to give a "thumbs down" gesture to any child bringing such items. I find this method completely inappropriate and humiliating. Promoting healthy eating is important, but it must be done respectfully not by shaming a child in front of peers.

I raised this concern with the school. One coordinator told me that I felt different because I was new to the school and explained their practice of giving smiley or sad stickers based on the childs snacks. I was open to this approach, as it can help parents track progress in a constructive way. However, the public thumbs down action is unacceptable. Despite multiple attempts to explain my concern, the staff consistently defended the teacher and refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing.

The principal, instead of addressing the issue, asked me what the school should do if students bring junk food. As a parent, I expect the school leadership to know how to foster healthy habits respectfully thats not the parent’s job to dictate. Furthermore, if there were concerns about the rusk in my child’s snack box, they could have easily informed me either in person or through the school diary. Sadly, nothing was communicated until this incident of public shaming occurred.

Adding to my concern, Ive observed that the overall quality of teaching is below expectation. Teachers often write lessons on the board for students to copy without actually explaining the content. When I asked my child how a math problem was solved, he said, Maam just wrote it on the board. Ive heard similar complaints from other parents.

Moreover, the medium of instruction is not consistently in English. Teachers often speak only in Tamil, which is disappointing in a school that claims to follow CBSE standards. Ironically, while the school insists on healthy snacks, during events like annual day, they themselves provide biscuits and sugary drinks like Maaza to the children.

In a separate incident, when my child requested to use the restroom, a teacher used the word pae a disrespectful and inappropriate term in Tamil. I reported this as well, but again, it was brushed off.

Whats most frustrating is the lack of accountability. The school seems more focused on collecting fees and putting up a show for new admissions, rather than delivering on quality education or student welfare. Public appreciation can build confidence but public humiliation can cause lasting harm.

After the incident, I immediately withdrew my child from the school. Children deserve kindness, respect, and a safe learning environment. Sadly, this school failed to provide that.
