Well I am little puzzled as well as shocked because today I felt like writing a review on animals, fishes in particular as pets..But I was amazed to find out that MS did not have any link or sections on PETS.Hey u guys dont u now feel that we are missing out on some wonderful reviews by some of our really good writers. I strongly feel MS should incorporate a PETS section/link as its depriving members like me who a panache for writing articles on our lesser known misfortunate friends. U will amazed to know that a person having BP problems [Hey I meant blood pressure u perverted guys!!!] can calm himself by watching the fishes swimming gently in a home aquarium. Its not only has a calming effect on our BP & brain but also has a soothing effect on our visual aids, i.e. our eyes in addition to giving an aesthetic beauty to the room in our home. Believe me friends maintaining an aquarium is not at all an expensive hobby but a dedicated & committed hobby. But it gives u immense satisfaction when u see that one of ur beauty being pregnant & giving birth to a shoal of fishlings. In fact if with some years of experience u can start ur own small business of selling the fledgling fishes. But of course maintaining an aquarium with marine fishes is extremely costly & requires lots of gadgets.
For starters u can maintain a 2 feet tank with 1 inch bottom golden sand gravel.U can plant a few water plants like water lillies, hydrilla, water hycinth & water grass which all grow rapidly with adequate lighting. For this u can fix a 60 watts blub.Once tank is brought a few accessories like an air pumping machine, a net for transferring a fish, a dechlorinser bottle, an antifungal medicine a simple water filter & if possible a small spare tank so if u want a diseased fish to be kept aside for quarantine u can keep it in this or keep a pregnant fish separately. Now ur tank is ready fill the tank with water, put the dechlorineser into it, this helps in removes excessive chlorine. Then plant the water plants in the gravel, introduce the fishes after 24 hrs..For starters u can keep fishes like guppies, various colored mollies, angel fishes, goldfishes, eels, tetras, bulldogs or black moors, danios or commonly known as zebra fishes. Then u can keep sucker fish which will really help u to keep the insides of the tank clean. Then u can add few snails again to clean the tank.U can keep swordfish & tangerines as these fishes are very hardy fishes & fishes like guppies, mollies, sword fishes & tangerines breed quickly giving one immense pleasure.
Float some hydrilla on the top so that the young ones can hide. For feeding well I would advice u to feed like worms from the aqaurium shop daily, i used to buy a weeks feed keep it in a flat bottomed container & clean it daily, it is viable for a week..but it smells a little bad so for those who cannt stand the smell go for tubifex cubes which are the same ones in dried form..If there are young ones add daphnia-water fleas evey alternate days.. One word of caution, over enthusiastic first time amateurs plz do not keep cleaning ur tank everyday u wud see ur fishes dwindling in numbers. Clean only once in a week.Either remove the fishes into a bucket with the same water..Clean the tank, fill the tank with fresh water, add dechlorinser, keep it for 24 hrs for the water to ripe add the fishes with some of old tank water..
The above mentioned fishes are hardy & do not require any extra care except in rainy & winter season, as in mumbai we do not experience harsh winter enough warmth can be generated using 40-60 watts bulb. Hope some of u wanted to keep an aquarium find this article useful.
