A Great Tiny Phone!

I have had my Sanyo SCP-4000 since March of last year. When I purchased this phone I was interested in size (the smaller the better) and the plan that I could get with it. To be quite honest I was drawn to Sprint for the plan - the phone is definitely a bonus! However this review is strictly for the phone itself.

The Sanyo SCP-4000 is an extremely lightweight and thin phone - this is the first thing that has impressed me the most. Also, the comments that I constantly hear are about how small it is. The ClearGlo™ Easy-to-Read Blue Backlit Display make the phone easy to read if you are in a poorly lit area, or in the car at night, or whatever. It has a Dual Band/Dual Mode Digital Transmission as well as CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) Technology With Analog Compatibility which means that it can receive analog and digital signals. The Call Encoding feature is a good security guard.

Other features include:

• Long Battery Life

• Mobile Connectivity Data/Fax Capable

• Internet MiniBrowser (which I haven’t used because it’s $9.95 a month once you start using it and I don’t need the added expense)

• One-Touch Voicemail Access (you hold down the 1 button)

• Ringer Mute

• Display Contrast Control

• Vibrating Ringer Mode

• Ten Ring Types - 5 Tones, 5 Melodies (some annoying, but plenty of variety)

• Entertaining Crab Catcher Game (keeps the kids busy)

• Calculator

• Built-In Headset Jack

• Up to 7 Numbers in Phone Book Entry, 300 Total

• Navigational Key

• 8-Number Speed Dialing

• 10-Number Call List

• Caller ID Capability

• Alphanumeric Paging Service Capability

• Security Lock

• Power Saver Mode

• Standard Lithium Ion (LiIon) Battery Included; Gives Approximately 3.0 Hrs Continuous Talk time or 120 Hrs Standby in Digital Mode 1.25 Hrs. Talk Time or 10 Hrs Standby in Analog Mode

• Travel Charger Included

• Desktop Charger (optional)

• Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter (optional)

• Leather Case (optional - I don’t recommend this one - the metal on the clip poked out after the first week or so of use - go with some other sort of clip if you can) Anyway, I love the size of this phone and the clarity of sound from it. For the price it is an excellent value.

Update: Just to let you know, I am STILL using this phone, over a year and a half after the initial purchase. The durability has been fantastic - and believe me I have dropped it MANY times during my ownership. I have investigated the possibility of purchasing the newer model of this phone (Sanyo 4500) but I don’t feel that the new version meets my needs in terms of size (the new one is much thicker and heavier)
