Guys, I must tell you that in India there are two units operating - Global Markets and Nitro. Global Markets is just a body shop platform to send you to clients place. Mind you these captive units have their own IT teams. They are not looking for high-end consultancy but just for bunch of people who can code for them for a period of time. Most of the times the work is on legacy platform. You dont even get to have your say in front of 2 year experience guy out there. So as an experienced person, its hell for you. There are hardly any leadership opportunities. The only way to move up the ladder is to "assume" leadership and start doing things such as asking people to make you the manager, meet clients and introduce yourself as the lead even though you are not asked to. Your manager might not have the time to hear you. Or he might ignore you. It might also happen that during appraisal time he makes you feel that you are performing at a level below your current level. This is when you are working from the clients place and the client is not even asked about your performance. You dont have regular meet also with your supervisors. I must say you would be highly disappointed if you come here as a senior person.
Nitro mainly caters to clients for their digital needs. As you might have guessed it, work surrounds websites - be it content, UI or some immediate backend services. The projects are mostly for short duration. The work might be good or okay, depends on your taste. Most of the senior folks(Manager and above) with java background are on bench for quite some time(2-3 months). This will cut down your bonus by 50% and at the same time increase your chances of getting fired by 50%.
Chances of going onsite is more in global markets. However you will mostly be doing the same stuff - sit on your desk, take orders from client - may be 1 -2 years expeience guy and code on some legacy platform. One Senior person in my team worked on an application which was developed more than 20 years ago. And he has more than 11 years of epxerience and was hired at the Manager level. You can understand his frustration. I was not far behind though. I am not writing this to vent out my frustration but to make sure that unlike me, if you are looking up for reviews, you get decent reviews to make up your mind.
Sapient might pay you well initially. However I have checked with other people out here. The bonus amount for senior folks is mostly in the range of 50-75% of what was promised. Add the deduction you have to get for your time on bench. You will be made to feel that it is your problem though. Deduction is 50%. So you hardly have any money left from the variable pay section.
I have seen people at higher levels. None of them would inspire awe. Whole promotion system is a sham here.
I told you about work as well. I did not find it good. My colleagues had the same feeling.
And one more thing, whatever you hear on glassdoor or elsewhere, the fact about firing is right. It happens to new hires and freshers as well.
I really feel stuck going to this rut every day.
