PATRIOTISM WAS NEVER LIKE THIS

Here’s a gem of a movie whose appreciation is coming a bit late but is there nevertheless. It was such a surprise that it caught everyone unawares. An unknown director just came onto the scene and made a statement about how he felt about our country.Of course John Matthew Matthan is very well known in the Ad circles but as a Bollywood director he was not.the story was so simply told about the investigations of a dedicated police officer who is after a gang who dabble in everything. The dogged way he goes about it cheered many a viewer up.The story is about Aamir Khan who is investigating a case of gunrunning which takes place across the border Via Rajasthan.Clue by clue they finally make it and get the shock of their lives at the number of well known persons involved.Aamir Khan excels as the cop who is out to nail everyone’s coffin.sonali Bendre is still remembered for her Don’t Mind line till today. She came across as a spontaneous actress.Naseeruddin Shah as the famed ghazal singer is very good and convincing. But it is Mukesh Rishi a sthe Muslim Cop who really steals the thunder from everyone. His performance was from the heart and very well remembered. He should seriously lobby for such roles rather than play all those cheap villian roles. The music score is classy, one of Jatin-Lalit’s best to date.the ghazal by Jagjit Singh still echoes in my ears and that song Jo Haal Hai Dilka is still wortha listen to.Go and see this movie if you still have not seen it.Definitely one of Bollywood’s better movies and highly recommended. And yes, this was the first hindi movie to directly point a finger at Pakistan blaming them for all the insurgency trouble. That required guts.
