Sarkar - Review

Sarkar is a movie which has been directed by Ram Gopal Varma and stars the 2 Bachchans

Amitabh and Abhishek along with Kay Kay Menon, Katrina Kaif , Tanisha and Supriya Pathak. The film had generated tremendous hype what with RGV naming it as a tribute to Godfather and the combination of Amitabh and Abhishek coming together on screen for the first time (though Bunty aur Babli was released earlier)...

Sarkar alias Subhash Nagre(Amitabh) is living in Bombay and he is someone who doles out justice to whoever comes to him and he also does not care whether what he is doing is right or not in the eyes of the law.He has 2 sons Abhishek and Kay Kay. The former has just returned from the USA while the latter helps him his dad in his work. The trouble starts when Rashid, played by I dont know who, comes and asks Sarkar permission to do drug trafficking in his area and Sarjar refuses. So Rashid, along with his cronies kill a noble politician, played by Anupam Kher and the blame falls on Amitabh and he is put in jail. How Abhishek finds out who the real culprit was and saves Amitabh and rises to be the new Sarkar forms the rest of the story

Coming to performances, what can we say about Amitabh? This guy is 60+ and he keeps giving performances, each on par or better than his previous performance. His is simply an awesome performance and he has conveyed emotions through his body language and eyes rather than heavy dialogues. But I was disappointed with his minimal appearance in the 2nd half. Abhishek was good....but I did not find him matching to the hype which had been created before the release....he is good but nothing extraordinary....Kay Kay menon is excellent he conveys the confusion in the character very well....full marks to the guy...The rest of the support cast have done their part well.Kathrina Kaif for the first time has tried acting and she has come off decently enough.

Technically its a very sound film...direction is good but in the second half the rise of Abhishek, I felt was too quick.Cinematography was very good, the high standard that we expect from his movies. the back ground score though nice was too loud at times. The ’’Govindä’’ chant was irritating at times.

Some good Scenes:

  1. The Scene where Amitabh and Rashid meet for the first time says to Rashid ’’Main tujhe bhi nahi karne doonga’’

  2. The scene where Amitabh asks Kay Kay to leave the house

  3. The scene where Kay Kay tries to kill Amitabh

My Favourite: The scene in which Abhishek confronts the politician.

Overall it is a good film, with superior performances from the major cast. The film, though lacking in story, relies totally on performances and the brilliancy of the director. But when RGV says that this is his best creation, u are left wondering. I personally think Company and Satya were far better overall products than Sarkar. I do recommend the movie....but if u go with the expectations that it will be better than Company, it will disappoint you.
