When two power houses meet, fireworks are guaranteed.
This is exactly what happened when Ram Gopal Verma, one of Indias most talented directors decided to cast the eternal Amitabh Bachchan to portray Subhash Nagre in Sarkar.
This was supposed to be RGVs tribute to Francis Ford Coppolas all time mafia classic The Godfather.
However, RGV has actually crafted a Bollywood classic.
I will not disclose the plot in detail mainly because many reviews have already dealt with that and more so because I want my friends at MS to see a good film.
Abhishek Bachchan has certainly matured as an actor.
His intensity is hereditary and it shows.
Amitabh and his son practically share the space.
Jr. Bachchan playing Subhash Nagres foreign return son Shanker is very believable and up front.
Kay Kay playing the Big Bs wrong son is good.
Even the other character roles have played the parts very well.
Special mention should be done for Supriya Pathak. Tanisha and Katrina Kaif are in true sense novice when you have a powerful starcast like the Bachchans and Kay Kay.
The lack of songs are welcome.
This goes with the intensity of the film.
If you are expecting a lot of violence and the traditional filmi masala, then Sarkar would be a big let down.
This film has to be viewed with an intellectual frame of mind.
This is no doubt that with Black and Sarkar Amitabh Bachchan certainly deserves the Best Actor award.
Sarkar should also appreciate the efforts of Abhishek Bachchan who took time coming out of his fathers gigantic shadow to create a niche for himself.
Kudos to RGV for re inventing the Hindi film industry again.
