I stayed at Hotel Savera, Mylapore, Chennai fron a period of 13 days during second and third week of november 2005 and this review aims to share my experience with the Hotel.
Located almost in centre of city, Savera is a good Four star Hotel to stay at. The room prices Range from Rs.3250 to Rs 4250 per day (12 noon-12 noon) (Prevailing rates during my stay-depending on room type and may change without notice.-Luxury Tax extra)
The check in was almost smooth. It took around 15-20 mins to complete formalities at the main reception to get the room keys (given the fact that booking was done in advance by my company)
I stayed here along with 8 other collegues of mine- we occupied a total of 6 rooms in different floors.
The rooms are decent put depending on the floor there can be some differences. For example, my room in 6th floor had a window that could be opened while rooms in some other floors had sealed windows that couldnt be opened. The corner rooms (I think they are executive suits) have additional balcony.
I also belive the management is renovationg the hotel. Some of the rooms had conventional metal key locks while others were controlled with electronic access cards.
I room I stayed was not totally soundproof because of the partition door (locked from both side) it shared with the adjoining room. Further most of the rooms were yet to be filled with electronic safes.
The room stay comes with complementary breakfast, one litre of mineral water per day and newspaper. (Im not sure about the complementary dinner- some guests-probably non corporate guests who didnt get any discount on the rent-Ive seen receiving dinner coupen too. Television is there while VCD/DVD players are available on rent.
The room ambience is good. Room service is efficient and the view from window (again depends on which room) is also great.
Food:
The Piano multi cousine restaurant (self service) is good but could have been better. For example, during my entire 13 days of stay, only Papaya and pinapple fruits were served while a few other fruits might have been introduced for a change. The items, stored for some time often loose their freshness it could have had, had it been served from off the oven.
Malgudi- south indian speciality restaurant is very good but relatively expensive compared to its branch in Hyderabad. For example. the cost of a plate of Bisi-Bela Bath (Spicy sambar rice) is Rs.55 + taxes at Malgudi Hyderabad (at Lifestyle, Begumpet), while the same food-quality and quantity is priced at Rs.90 +taxes.
The Minar, roof top restaurant was closed for renovation, hence no comments on that.
Ive no habit of going to pubs hence have not explored the Sparks-pub and dance bar.
The cost of ordering laundry and food from room are relatively expensive for those who wish to save money. For example a cup of coffee is charged at Rs.45 plus 28% tax.. wash, dry clean and pressing a shirt would cost nearly a hundred rupee... But thats what star hotels are and no use complaining...
The swimming pool is quite comfortable... but lacks multi height decks to dive off.
The travel desk is quite efficient. Vehicle arrives ahead of time...
The other review on this hotel says autos are not allowed till main entrance... Though theres a board confirming the same, autos with luggage are allowed generally till main entrance or a trolly is provided for the purpose.
Theres a himalya drugs outlet inside the hotel. though items are sold at MRP here, I found that an offer given at other himalayan outlets in the city are not not available in this one. (The offer was that anyone buys products above Rs.100 would get a scratch card which may result in free product worth Rs.3 to Rs.40)
I celebrated my birthday during my stay in the hotel. though my birthday was mentioned in the check in slip, the hotel didnt notice that and consequently gave no complements on my birthday. (Not that they have to, but would have been better if they had)
As a long staying guest we didnt get any complements either except for a piece of cake.
Overall it was a comfortable stay.
