Saving Private Ryan, a small group of american, second world war soilders set off through Nazi occupied France to track down, Ryan a private who has had all his brothers killed, it is a special mission and one which causes the men searching for him to question the ethics of such a mission and to question their own role in the war.
The chief officer searching for Ryan is played by Tom Hanks and again he gives an excellent performance, the rest of the cast is also excellent, incuding Matt Damon and Ben Affleck.
The film is split into three segments, the first being the horrific normandy landings, the second the search for Ryan and the third the outcome when Ryan is found. What is excellent is the way that war is portrayed as horrific and lifechanging, and certainly not like the old war films where everything is glossed over.
A great film and not just about war, but about people put in extreme situations and their responses.
