When I saw the advertisements to this motion picture Saw I wasnt impressed sometimes the thought of extreme macabre turns me off. So I didnt pay much attention to this movie until I read dozens of reviews on it. I rented it and after watching Saw I was quite impressed with the edge of your seat, and suspenseful atrocities of the portrayed serial killer, known as the Jigsaw Killer.
Saw offers an excellent & original plot, storyline, and an extremely good edge of your seat mystery thriller/horror. The acting in this movie is by far not at its best despite the appearance of noted and respectful actor Danny Glover, even Glover himself falls short with acting in his lead role as a detective determined to find the Jigsaw Killer. I found the movies strength in its originality when depicting a typical serial killer, and its high levels of wit and deception. Saw is not your typical serial killer slushier horror flick; it hinges itself on a unique twist of the cat and mouse game of escape, the traits of a serial killer, and survival. In this movie the serial killer doesnt kill his victims, the victims must kill each other to escape. Saw is written, and directed by James Wan, Leigh Whanne. Leigh Whanne also portrays Adam, the photographer in this motion picture. Saw was released in 2004 the running time for this movie is 1:45.
In this movie, a Doctor, (Cary Elwes) and Photographer (Leigh Whanne) has been kidnapped, and taken to an isolated dirty bathroom only to find their angles chained and bound to pipes. There they see the corpse of a man whose been shot in the head lying in a pool of blood along with micro tape recorders in their pockets, and in the hand of the dead man lying on the floor, giving them clues, and directions of escape.
The doctor ushers the viewer through this story as he recounts his encounter with a detective (Danny Glover) who believe hes a suspect in a rash of serial kidnappings, and killings. While the doctor tells his story we see a glimpse of the serial killer at a hospital and the detective is interviewing a woman who escaped from the Jigsaw Killer. Her near death and jaw breaking escape is most terrifying along with another story of a failed escape of a naked man who’s forced to run through barbed wire only to meet his terrible fate of death. Another horribly illustrated story is told of a man who sets himself on fire when attempting to escape from the Jigsaw Killer.
Meanwhile, the doctor and the photographer are caught in a triangle of little time left to their lives. The doctors wife and daughter have been kidnapped, and the doctor is helpless and makes a decision to amputate his foot. The intensity and suspense raises to its highest level in the climax of Saw leaving the viewer with an illuminating discovery of the serial killer and his deadly game of kidnapping, escape, and death.
Final Thoughts
Saw is a must see movie. As I mentioned earlier Saw is a well executed horror movie thats encompassed with a superb plot, storyline, and a gripping edge of your seat suspenseful thriller thus making room for the above elements powerful enough to surpass the mediocre acting by the cast in this motion picture.
Saw scores five stars it’s excellent.
