SBI Card - Make life complex

The caption of SBI card is just opposite to what it says. Here is my experience with them..


What I’ve observed based on my and my friends’ experience on SBI card is that this card is good unless you face some problem. I missed a payment because I was relocating. I received a call informing this the next day of my payment due date. The executive on the other side was rude. When I pointed this out to her she said, she is not and it’s what I feel. I interact with different people, so I don’t need to "feel" what the attitude of the person at the other side. I agreed to pay the amount next day andshe called me up again the next morning, but I didn’t pick it as I was on roaming. Now, here are a few points. Instead of a call after the due date, a payment reminder as an SMS would be great relief to the customer. You have other priorities, so you may miss these. After making the payment, I called up the customer care and explained what happened and enquired about the finance charges. He said interest will be levied on the "previous outstanding amount" (about 1900) and not the whole amount (about 20k). But I was shocked to see an interest + late payment fee of about Rs.1000.


I called up the customer care again mentioning the reason why I missed the payment and requesting whether they can reverse the charges, only to get an answer "we cannot do anything on this". I’ve gone through a similar situation with another (foreign) bank and they were happy to do the reversal for me. I requested them to give the contact details of someone who can take a decision on this, which they were not ready to. I pointed them out about my extensive usage of this card (not less than 20k for last 6-8 months). Still, they were not ready to do any compromise.


I didn’t want to happen this the next month and made a payment by dropping a cheque at the drop box located in an SBI branch. After a week, I checked my unbilled statement online and found a fee levied instead of the amount credit. I called up the customer care again to check what happened. The executive said the amount in figure and words didn’t match, so the cheque didn’t get cleared. I requested her for an explanation why I was not informed, she said an SMS was sent to my mobile. I asked her to confirm the mobile number, I found that was my old number, which I had requested to update a month back. So, the executives don’t do their job and the customers have to suffer.


So, finally I have decided not to do business with SBI card. They are the worst financial organization I have ever dealt with. I think the Co-operative bank in my village is far better in terms of service when compared to SBI.


So guys, please don’t take any credit card from SBI, whatever they offer.
