When I saw previews for this movie, I thought it looked hilarious! I think the Wayans brothers are funny, and the supporting cast seemed funny also. But when I sat down to watch the film, I found out that Scary Movie is nothing more than an immature mess of sick jokes, that leaves you feeling like you wasted your time and money.
I happen to be a fan of silly movies. I can watch anything made by Mel Brooks and laugh out loud throughout it. But there’s a fine line that you can’t cross when making a goofy movie. There was way too many sexual situations in Scary Movie. I know these days there are few movies that can do without it, but there has to be a limit and Scary Movie went way past it! I watched this movie with my mother and my sister, expecting it be one of those stupidly funny movies, and I wound up just sitting there embarrassed and slightly shocked by most of it.
Like I said above, I like the Wayans brothers and I do find them funny. That’s what makes this movie so disappointing. They just sunk too low, and they have the potential to make such good, funny movies that don’t require all the sexual humor, as well as crude humor. There were a couple of amusing parts that did make me laugh out loud, but it was hardly enough to make the movie worth the time and embarrassment. I just find it very unnecessary for a movie to focus that much on sex.
If you feel that you still have to watch this movie, my only suggestion is that you watch it alone, so you don’t have to feel embarrassed in front of your friends and/or family. This is definitely not a movie you want to watch with your kids or with your parents. Trust me about that. If you do decide to watch it, just make sure you know what you’re getting into, because I didn’t! And if you’re one of those people who like crude humor, then this movie is perfect for you. I just happen to like movies with some sort of plot and just a hint of class, and Scary Movie lacks both.
