Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam is my favourite Airport. The Airport is spotlessly clean, its ground staff are very efficient and its counter staff, mostly girls, are equally good and courteous.The Duty-free Shops are full of attractive goods - cameras, watches, French perfumes, Dutch souvenirs and what have you.You get very good Diamonds here.
There is an interesting story about the Schiphol Airport. Some American tourists were coming to Amsterdam, for holidaying in Holland. Before they landed, they were told by some fellow passengers that the Airport was below the sea level. The American passengers were so much afraid that they decided to go back as soon as possible. After landing at Schiphol they returned home by the next flight.
The truth of the matter is that the Airport is actually below the sea level. The Dutch Engineers have constructed a Dyke as a result of which the sea water has not entered the Airport. The Dutch are internationally expert in this field - construction of Dykes.
Amsterdam is a city of Canals. As soon as you come out of the Airport, you see the Canals with boats plying on them. Wind Mills are a part of the Dutch landscape. Another thing of interest is the Wooden Boot, which every one, who visits Holland, takes as a souvenir.
KLM Dutch Airlines are the National Carriers of Holland, and their Base is Amsterdam. The Air Hostesses are smart and beautiful, always ready to serve the passengers with a smile. KLM’s partner Garuda Airways of Indonesia has become very modern due to KLM’s influence.
The Dutch cuisine is very good, with a lot of fish and meat dishes. Horse meat is a delicacy here. I was in Wageningen for six weeks as a Ford Foundation Fellow. Hence my familiarity with the Dutch life and culture. Both men and women love the night life. Hienken Beer is their favourite drink. So, next time you are here, do remember me !
