When a patient enters a hospital, the person is admitted after formalities., he may live, die get better or worse or anything may happen. Two parties come in to play. One is the patient him/herself the second party is the family/close people of the patient.
The treatment of the family is as important as the treatment of the patient himself.
*With this background I want to write the review of this excellent book, which is called the "Scoffield Diagnosis."
Every patient that enters the ER (Emergency Room) or ward, is to be treated by the people very carefully. The patient must get well soon and go back home that’s the intention of the patient and the people bringing the patient to the ER/Hospital.
The Story here revolves around the Dr Jean Scoffield who is an excellent neurologist, her patient, Robert ( Bobby) Tatum junior, the parents of Bobby, the Tatums family and to some extent her love interest Larry Braham (who is also the paediatrician).
Hospitals are of doctors but after all doctors are also human beings. Although we may treat some Doctors as God for they saving the lives of certain people or as vilians for being unable to save. They are also someway or other getting into this mess of politics, prejuidice, gender bias etc.
People are more comfortable in the hands of male doctors!
Some people are comfortable in the hands of male doctors. They can’t be confident that a female doctors are able to treat as well as males can do. They want the doctor to be understanding and understood! But they dont believe the same if they are told the same by a lady doctor. This is a matter of concern for many doctors and Dr Jean Scoffield also has the problem to be faced.
* People do not want to work under lady chiefs/heads.
*People on the top fear that female heads may create problem down the line and that they may have to face the problem of relationship. To avoid this conflict the CEs try to create a post for keeping certain people aside and make someone else as the boss, Not only for ladies it happens for several other people who are capable but are not delivering.
All these aspects work on our protagonist and how she deals with each case, each emergency, the trustees and the chief patron who are lot more interested in the Life and treatment of Bobby Tatum, make several attempts to remove her from the case and make her unfit. How she proves herself as a winner, and who becomes the neurology chief int he hospital is the story of the book.
Other problems
Beside Bobby Tatum , Jean Scoffield has many other things to do, One is the hospital environment and the second one is Child Abuse. The story shows lots of psychitary in the different characters. How unknowingly the child suffers for simple mistake of the parents etc.
Over and all the book is good and is to be read for increasing the broad understanding of the people.
