So much fun ...for everyone

Believe it or not, SCRABBLE has only been around since 1948. I perhaps will call it one of the greatest inventions of human brain...In fact to tell u all... The story of SCRABBLE is a classic example of American innovation and perseverance.

The history behind SCRABBLE

The man who made it all happen -- Alfred M. Butts.During the Great Depression, an out-of-work architect named Alfred Mosher Butts decided to invent a board game. He did some market research and concluded that games fall into three categories: number games, such as dice and bingo; move games, such as chess and checkers; and word games, such as anagrams.

Butts wanted to create a game that combined the vocabulary skills of crossword puzzles and anagrams, with the additional element of chance. The game was originally named Lexico, but Butts eventually decided to call the game ’’Criss-Cross Words.

Butts’ first attempts to sell his game to established game manufacturers were failures, but he didn’t give up. He and his partner, game-loving entrepreneur James Brunot, refined the rules and design of the game, and renamed it SCRABBLE. The name, which means ’’to grope frantically, ’’ was trademarked in 1948. The first SCRABBLE ’’factory’’ was an abandoned schoolhouse in Dodgington, Connecticut, where Brunot and friends turned out 12 games an hour

SCRABBLE in the Present

Needless to say today SCRABBLE has become one of the most famous and most recommended games. We would hardly come across teens who would not have played or at the least heard of this ’’Must have one’’ game. This game is particularly very famous in britain with formal tournaments happening throughout the year.

Moreover, today the challenge of this game is not only restricted to overcoming the skills of humans but eversince the game has been translated on to the PC it has become even more testing. Man it really tries your vocabulary and I have not come across anyone who would claim to have defeated this ’’Deep Blue’’....This is not a task for the faint of heart.

If you like puzzle games, or you find yourself looking for something a little bit different, I can’t recommend a title more highly. If you’re only interested in words as a way to explain how you killed your last opponent, you’ll find Scrabble to be just what it is - both on a board and on a screen

No wonder they say ’’Scrabble becomes a life-long game. People start as kids and never stop.”
