Secret original VS Secret anti-perspirant

I’ve been using Secret deodorant, original solid for a very long time now. I work in a hot, humid bakery and it works wonderfully for me.

Last week I ran out and had to pick some up real fast, I picked up Secret anti-persiprant and deodorant sheer dry gel this time.

What a mistake!!

It worked as well as the other deodorant, but it left me with an itchy red rash in my entire underarm area! So itchy in fact that it drove me crazy for 2 days!

That’s when I decided to actually read (DUH) the ingredients.

My old Secret:

aluminum zerconium trichlorohydrex gly, cyclomethicone, stearyl alcohol, talc, castor oil, silica, dipropylene glycol, behenyl alcohol and pentadecalactone. (Whatever all that is)

New Secret:

All of the above, PLUS, dibutal lauroyl, C20-40, pareth-10, fragrance, C20-40 alcohol, disodium edta.

Something in the added ingredients caused an allergic reaction to my body.

I called Proctor and Gamble on their free 800 phone number and started asking questions about all the chemical

ingredients. The people I spoke with tried to explain what all the ingredients were, but, alas, I still knew nothing.

I called a Doctor friend of mine who tried to explain that all an anti-perspirant/deodorant does is clog the pores so you don’t perspire and a couple of the ingredients neutralize the odor, caused by germs and bacteria, so you don’t smell. He went on to tell me that using an anti-perspirant is really not even healthy, since it blocks the natural sweat glands from eliminating the wet bacteria!

So, for me, it’s back to my Secret original Deodorant. No more anti-perspirants!
