A New Beginning

This year has been a brilliant year as far as good watchable films are concerned.

Bollywood gave us a few talented directors and re inforced trust in some old ones.

Films like Black, Page 3, Sarkar, Viruddh, Sehar and Yahaan are very good examples of the experimentation mood of the new age brave directors.

Sehar is a realistically made hard hitting film directed by Kabeer Kaushik.

Though it doesnot boast of a star studded star cast, yet the film casting was spot on.

You can really relate to the cast.

The story line is something that I will not deal in detail with.

But just to give the essence , it deals with the organised crime in Uttar Pradesh, one of India’s most prominent states.

Arshad Warsi as the S.S.P of Lucknow wants to end the organised crime, that started with the Railway Tender contract and went on to larger social evils like arms trafficking and contract murders.

The role of Gajraj Singh, played by the talented Sushant Singh was not only believable but hard hitting.

Mahima Choudhary looks old and is high time that she quits the industry.

She did not have much of a role anyway.

But the cream of the acting cake is undoubtedly crowned upon the inimitable Pankaj Kapoor. He is too good as the Cellular Tracking incharge for the Lucknow Police cell called the Special Task Force(S.T.F).

Sehar is a realistic film as it is based on real life incidences.

It doesnot highlight the corruption or the normal babudom that is usually the norm of films of this genre.

The main issue of the film is the termination of the organised crime that has become such a big issue everywhere.

The director was successful in building the characters.

The evil caused by the introduction of the Cellular age has been aptly highlighted.

The film is short yet leaves an impact.

A New Beginning(Sehar) has started for this talented director Kabeer Kaushik.

I certainly wished that this film had done well.

It was a welcome relief from the monotony of the regular directors who weave their love stories around trees.
