*Merlion** : One of the most enduring symbol of Singapore is the Merlion. It is because of the Merlion that Singapore is called the Lion City and this half-lion, half-fish is about 37 metres high. This Merlion on the Sentosa was sculpted and designed by James Martin, an Australian artist. This is made of Glass Reinforsed Cement over a steel armature and is attached to the central lift core. This statue recalls the legendary tale of Sang Nila Utama.

This person saw a lion while hunting in Singapore. The Merlion legend is commemorated on the Sentosa island. The Merlion of the Sentosa island was opened in 1996 and is the tallest Merlion of Singapore. The Merlion is also called the ’Sea Lion’ and the tourists can go to the top of the Merlion for a panoramic view of the Sentosa island. A pre-show introduces the tourist to the sea mysteries and a lively music follows them as the walk by the dioramas depicting lake monsters, mermaids, sea serpents etc.

The interior of the Merlion is enthralling. The Merlion rewards you with a 360 degree view of the island and also the southern shores of Singapore. You can also spot the Mouth Gallery Viewing Deck and the impressive skyline of Singapore. You must also bag the iconic Singapore souvenir from the Merlion shop.
