Shaurya is one of the first 3 movies releasing in April, in India. It is a movie which questions your duty, questions your faith. And of course before you read.. Shaurya is NOT a war movie. Its a movie related to internal wars; The wars with self conscience. Its basically is a courtroom drama with a strong Indian Army backdrop.
Plot:
Jaaved Khan (Deepak Dobriyal)** has been accused of murdering a fellow officer on a mission in Punj district somewhere in Jammu and Kashmir. Siddharth (Rahul Bose) and Akash (Javed Jafri) are lawyers and have been assigned to execute his Court Marshal and find out the reasons of the certain rebellion behavior of doing such a huge mistake after serving a good 14 years in the comission. Jaaved keeps absolute silence, He shows no sign of speaking in front of anyone. Not even in front of his defence lawyer.
Meanwhile, A local journalist, Kavya Shastri (Minissha Lamba) enters into the scene and tries to score a captivating story for her local news daily, Dainik Bhaskar. In the procedure, A meeting is setup between her and the defence lawyer Siddharth, In which she discovers the absolute cluelessness of Siddharth in the case. After exploring few dozens of documents, visiting the scene of crime, meeting the eye witnesses and finally meeting Jaaveds mother (Seema Biswas), Siddharth comes to a decision of finding Jaaved Not Guilty. With this, The unanswered questions are forced to come out.
*Why did Jaaved shoot?
Why didnt he run? Instead why did he surrender?
Will Jaaved be freed?
Direction:*
The movie has an excellent Army backdrop, which definitely increases the smartness of the movie and the viewers belief in accepting the story. Debutant Samar Khan does show a lot of potential for his first movie. He becomes absolutely succesful in taking out the complete 100% of the all the actors. Screenplay is good. Cinemetography has been nicely done, and the greenery and the valleys of Srinagar are taken with utmost precision. The art is good. Most of the sets look very real, including army camp, a small village and the army court.
*Performances:
*Jaaved Dobriyal enacts his part excellently well. Rahul Bose performs equally good. Jaaved Jafri as an shrewed officer and a loving friend and husband is flawless. Kay Kay in his small negative role gives a terrific performance, you really feel to shoot that guy. Minissha Lamba does not have much to do, Though she performs well. Seema Biswas is her usual first rate. The supporting cast too performs nicely.
*Positives:
*Shaurya is a captivating courtroom drama in a off beat way. The movie has an excellent script, great direction and very good performaces. Keeping in mind the entertainment quotient and showing all the facts in two hours is a tough job but the director does full justice to it. Cinemetography has been done nicely. The major usp of the film lies in its climax, Absolutely worthy and thought provoking. Music is situational, no song looks forced into the scene.
*Negatives:
*The movie does not have the star material which is surely the major culprit in keeping the ticket windows dry. The music is too avergae and only one song Dheere Dheere is quite hummable and rest.. You forget at the end.
Overall^^.. Shaurya is one of the finest movies to be released in 2008 by far. If you believe in watching quality cinema this ones a must watch.
*Thank You
