Shikhar is a special film in many ways. John Mathew Matthan dons the director cap six years after Sarfarosh, Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao unite again after Ishq Vishq and Viju Shah makes a comeback and thats precisely why I wanted the music to be outstanding!
Viju Shah disappointed me big time! His last was Asambhav and though he gave some peppy numbers, he wasnt at his best then, and sadly he goes a notch (or two!) lower this time.
The album has 8 tracks and surprisingly none stays with you, nor you want to listen them again. First track Fitna Dil (What the heck that means by the way!!!!) sung by Udit Narayan, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kay Kay is perhaps supposed to be the anchor song pf the album since it has been repeated (Remixed! What is this happenning to Bollywood). But the song is a complete letdown. Neither the tune, nor the arrangement makes any mark and the song sounds very very ordinary.
Dheere Dheere sung by Sunidhi Chauhan (repeated version sung by Kay Kay) is another slow song that is low on melody and again the arrangement is a big letdown. Though Kay Kay version sounds better. Honestly I couldnt tolerate this one. There is additional music (now what does that mean?!!) by P.Sameer for this track.
Mere Mann starts on a very promising note but you find that joy is shortlived. Sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik it sounds as if composed by Nadeem-Shravan for a Dharmesh (or Sunil) Darshan movie. (It comes replete with Hey Hey) Very average track, perhaps you may like it after a couple of hearings. I didnt! (And yeah there is that additional music by Mani Shankar)
Tu Hai Shikhar by Jagjit Singh comes as a great relief!! Believe me there is this one song that you may want to hear again. The lyrics are good and this prayer song sounds good. First Thumbs-Up for Shikhar.
Aap ko Samjha by Sadhana Sargam and Udit Narayan is a rare melody of the album. Mellow and very easy on ears, I enjoyed this one, but there is always a feeling that something could have been better. But Still, another positive mark.
Megha Re Megha is perhaps a Garba number and is apt but this one reminds that you are listening to a Viju Shah album. There is that zing in the arrangement!
Vaga by Ash Shandler is that indecipherable thing that has become slightly outdated these days. See if you want to listen to this, I didnt.
On the whole, the music is very very ordinary and hardly deserves to be purchased. My rating: 2/5
