Shillong is one of the most renowned hill stations of North East India. There are many striking features of the city which makes it unique in its own way! Some of the interesting things about Shillong are :
• beautiful pines trees and scenic hills, which can be enjoyed from almost all parts of the city.
• good and comfortable weather thoughout the year ( except for 2 months in the winter when it is too cold) .
• matrilineal society ( followed throughout Meghalaya) .
• good communication ( easy to reach) and no language barrier. Most of the people in the city know basic Hindi and English language, so people visiting from other part of the country finds it easy to communicate.
• the outskirts of the city are as beautiful - cherrapunji ( popularly know as the wettest place on earth ) is just 2 hours journey from Shillong. Dawki - another beautiful town located in the India-bangladesh border, can also be reached in about 3 hours. Other interesting places are mawlynnong ( the cleanest village in Asia) , jowal etc.
• good tourist spots: there are several beautiful tourist spots within the city such as Lady Hyderi park, wards lake, golf links, elephant falls, Shillong view point, Barapani lake, etc. From the above points we can see that the city has a huge potential of tourism, and is a great place to live. Only thing we need is , if we have a better communication for Shillong, such as, if Railway Station can be built here, it will be more convenient for tourists to visit the place and spend some time with nature here
